Yeah, I gave my friend the PSU and GPU and they still worked fine, lucky too because I would've been out of a 1080 that was practically free.
I think I can take the wallet-hit for the R5 2600, at least that way it's a good investment that won't make me want to replace it anytime soon.

Yeah, I was worried that this CPU would impact on the GPU negatively. And yeah, old PC essentially exploded and even if it didn't, I was planning to get rid of it soon anyway considering it was a practically ancient hand-me-down from a friend with the only good parts being the PSU and the 1080...
