I'm thinking of upgrading the RAM on a prebuilt machine (I'm running some CAD software that is very RAM hungry). It came with 16GB (as 2 sticks of 8), and I was thinking of either
another pair of the same to take it to a total of 32GB,

Well this sucks a bit.
I ordered a pre-built desktop 2 days ago. I would have preferred to customise the specs a bit more, but the higher end pre-built ones looked close enough to what I needed, and I figured I was unlikely to get something with an RTX 3060 or higher without a wait or insane...
I was just asking about people's opinion or experience with this, not some official or precise answer, since presumably lots of other people here have at some point upgraded and dealt with the question of what to do with an old machine.
I finally ordered an upgrade to my system and am excited for the new one, but am figuring out what to do with the old machine.
The power supply just failed, and I'm keeping the ssd/hdd, but I figure the rest might be useful to someone at least for parts and am wondering if it's worth anything...
