960 or 970?

I'm looking to upgrade my PC as it's starting to struggle with some mainstream titles. I'm saving for a new beast machine but as that's a while off in the meantime I'd like to make some adjustments to my current build to keep it sustainable for gaming. I have a 2GB Nvidia 680 currently, and I'm looking at upgrading to either a 960 or 970. I'm not particularly educated on the GFX card market at the moment, so any advice you guys have would be appreciated. I'd like to keep the costs below £200 so I'm leaning towards a 960, but I'm not sure on value for money here and whether or not the stretch is worth it for a 970?

Depends on the settings you expect and the games you play. I would go with the best gpu within your budget, pushing for the gtx 970.

Thanks for the reply, I'm a little confused after some searching I've done I'm wondering if you could help me. My current card (2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 680) goes for around £380 at the moment, yet I can get a 960 for around £160 and a 970 for just over £200. What's with the pricing here? Is there actually much of an upgrade here if I do buy the cards?

A quick look (and I mean a quick look) says the 680 is about on a par with the 960 in terms of pure performance. The 970 is a good deal faster than the 680 so would be a boost in performance terms and IMO the only option for you if you are looking for an upgrade over a 680.

The 680 was effectively a top tier card 2 generations ago, the 960 is a mid tier card now so the performance is about equal. The 970 is a good deal faster than the 960 so is priced accordingly. The 960 is the "sweet spot" in terms of value for money but its not worth it for you as you already have a 680.
