Advice on this laptop spec

Hi

I am just wondering what people’s thoughts are on this gaming laptop.
My main game will be DayZ but I would like the option to play other games including triple A titles like COD for example if possible
I have to settle with a laptop due to space at home and having a baby.
Looking at financing this and looking at a maximum of £50 per month.

Thanks in advance for any time taken to answer my question.

Hi, just to save folk needing to figure it out, what does £50/month on finance make your budget look like?

Can you provide the cost for the above spec along with the configurable link (would have been on the same page you copied the spec from)

There's a load of handy typical questions here which will be good if you take a look: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...posting-collaboration-of-helpful-hints.77691/

Couple of immediate thoughts from me would be to take the dead pixel guarantee warranty and up the standard warranty to Silver (£5) and remove Norton as its frankly detrimental these days.

I will definitely add that but in terms of the performance, is this a fairly decent spec setup?
So long as you’re aware of the limitations of the budget

Most gaming laptops these days are 1440p which is 2560 x 1440, in this case a slightly higher 2560 x1600

Laptop GPUs are entirely different silicon to desktop cards and theyre power limited and specs limited to be able to perform in such a small chassis. So it’s roughly 1 tier lower than desktop. So a 5060 desktop card is roughly a 5070 laptop card.

A 1440p screen would need a minimum of a 5070 to power it at what would be deemed acceptable levels (around 80fps in modern titles).

So really to comfortably run that screen you need a 5080 laptop GPU.

You could obviously make it work with a 5060 but you’d be reducing graphics pretty much all the way down to do so and even then on titles like Hogwarts Legacy or Wukong, Jedi Survivor that are VRAM intensive (as a lot of games now are), you may not be able to run them at all

Ok thank you.

So for my budget of around £1500, what would you be selecting/changing then to get the best for my budget. I don’t have to have the defiance series, I am quite open to other models but a 16inch screen is an absolute minimum

If your primary objective is to play at an acceptable level by 2025 (which is subjective), I recommend spending a little bit extra to get a laptop for a decent gaming experience.

If you choose to stay to your initial £50/month payment plan, this Defiance is the lowest I would go.

N.B. I would not recommend an Intel 14th Generation platform due to a well-known issue.
