Hi all,

does anyone have any usefull advice they can give me on upgrading my pc? Suggestions on hardware, cooling, noise etc would be appreciated :)

There's nothing actually 'wrong' with it except i guess it kicks out a bit of noise that i dont notice until i turn it off and then realise how persistent it has been. This being said and "if there's nothing wrong with it why upgrade it"

the answer to this is simply, because i want too

My Spec -

ALPHA TRION 7622B BLACK CASE
AMD FX-6350 Six Core CPU
ASUS® M5A97 R2.0 (DDR3, USB3.0, 6Gb/s)
16GB HyperX FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz
4GB EVGA FTW GTX970
240GB KINGSTON UV400 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb
1TB Hitachi 3.5" HDD
CORSAIR H55 HYDRO SERIES HIGH PERF CPU COOLER
ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND
CORSAIR 550W VS SERIES™ VS-550 POWER SUPPLY
WINDOWS 10 (64-BIT)
ViewSonic VX2370Smh-LED - 23" IPS LED Monitor

Thanks In advance

Unless you are having issues with it I wouldn't suggest upgrading it. Any further upgrade on the gpu is likely to be constraint by your cpu. Any upgrades also depend on your budget.

As above, if the performance is generally fine I'd stich with it for now. You can always review your options in a few months, perhaps Ryzen R5 would be a nice CPU/mobo/RAM upgrade opportunity.

As for the noise, the H55 cooler will run the fan at 100% all the time I believe. You could try replacing it with a high static pressure PWM fan. Something by Noctua, or maybe a Corsair SP series or whatever. You could also add to and/or replace the stock case fans to improve air flow, which may allow the GPU fans to work a bit less hard.

Strange i said this earlier

was just playing xcom 2 and the pc has died.

Unplugged it all, cleaned it all out, plugged back in, led's flashed quick and then off again

After it died and i took the case off, it was all very hot inside, even the cooling tubes were hot so something has overheated, hopefully not shorted the cpu or anything!!

Sounds like the CPU's overheating. Check the pump is plugged in properly.

It should still be under warranty, GTX 970 FTW won't be 3 years old and even if you bought it 2nd hand EVGA usually have a warranty 3 years from the date of manufacture.

theyre saying there is an issue with serial number with the registration of warrenty and i dont have proof of purchase anymore. The GTX 970 FTW is better than the 1050ti and i would have liked to carry on with the 970, less laggy.

Yeah, the 1050 ti is similar to the GTX 960 in performance, and there was a big gap between the 960 and 970. Plus the 970 FTW had a reasonably large factory overclock.

I'm not sure what issue they're saying there is but I hope you can get it sorted. Given that the 970 isn't so very far behind its 'replacement', the GTX 1060 6gb, in performance and that's a ~£250 GPU it's still a valuable and effective piece of kit.

Did you check the serial number here http://www.evga.com/support/guestregister.asp
I'm pretty sure that you don't need proof of purchase for a guest RMA, and that since the GTX 970 was originally released in Nov 2014 there's no way it wouldn't still be within 3 years of manufacture / shipping from EVGA (whichever date they use).

Though it might preclude you from an Advanced RMA, a standard speed RMA ought to still be possible, as far as I can see.

I have spoken to them and apparently the Warrenty for my 970 is out.

Im taking the 1050ti back to the shop, getting back my £160, and ordering a ASUS Radeon RX 480 Dual OC from overclockers for £179

I think this is the right decision

My System with the 1050ti in runs a few games fairly laggy,

It just doesnt pack the punch that the 970 FTW had

Your Answer:

Hello,

Unfortunately as you do not have a purchase invoice the warranty period will be 3 years from the date the card was shipped form the EVGA warehouse.

As per the warranty terms and conditions:-

"EVGA offers various limited warranty terms from the date of purchase to the original owner with a valid invoice. For original owners without a valid invoice and users that have not purchased the product from an authorized reseller, the warranty period is 3 years from the date that the product was shipped from EVGA's warehouse."

The GTX 970 was launched on 18th September 2014 (I thought it was Nov, but apparently it's Sept).

That's less than 3 years ago.

The part of that email you've quoted doesn't say it's out of warranty, it just says that the warranty is 3 years from when the card left their warehouse, as opposed to 3 years from when you (or the original owner if you bought it 2nd hand) bought it off Amazon etc.

There's no way that card is out of warranty.

Seriously, you need to press them on it.

Unless there's a very specific reason for them to deny the warranty, it should still be covered.

Perhaps try the EVGA forums and see if the community there who are presumably more familiar with EVGA's processes can shed any light: https://forums.evga.com/

If this is all they said:

They're not declining the warranty, merely clarifying the length of it.
