Hi Everyone,

I've got a PCS desktop only 8 months old running a Palit GeForce GTX 980 Super JetStream with 16GB of memory, i7-5820 CPU. Windows 8.1 (though I have had the same problems in 10 before reverting back to 8).

Up to a few weeks ago everything was fine, then I started getting this error: first the monitor input disappears followed a second or so later by the sound. The PC does not reboot itself and things like the DVD drive still open and close but I need to cycle the power before the machine can do anything.

To begin with I would get this after several (5-6) hours of playing anything (principally Civ 5 via Steam, but also Hearthstone). Now it appears after just a few minutes, or is even instant with lots of games (Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham City, SimCity). Nothing else seems to recreate the error, though, including some serious GPU-heavy 3D rendering (Daz 3D / LuxRender), and other heavy memory users like digital audio workstations. Just games seem to do it. Happens using Steam, Battle.net and Origin, all of them.

I have got the latest NVidia drivers. Temperatures are absolutely fine before the error, which happens even if my machine has just been switched on and I run a game. Windows isn't saving a crash dump that I can see.

Any help will be gratefully received!

Have you checked the GPU to see if it's connected properly to the motherboard and power cables and doesn't have excess dust in it?
