Can anyone help

Is the spec below good to use after effects and Premier without issue. Current PC can't handle it so can't preview work and it's very slow.
I don't want to be limited in what work I can do.

Thanks in advance

Ok I've tweaked it a bit, given you a way better case, everything would have cooked in the one you chose, upgraded the motherboard to one that can handle the CPU, changed the memory config, the ryzens like the fastest memory they can get, changed the storage slightly, given you a better PSU and cooler

That's not really less than 2k though :(
Admittedly the first attempt wasn't either, @Phoenixliberty did you mean 3k since that was closer to the link you provided or were you hoping to get it closer to 2k?

MrWilson

For a frame of reference, what are your current PC specs?
The build above is an absolute powerhouse, but obviously is quite expensive as a result. If you don't actually need all that power we can spec you a cheaper build.
Depending on what resolution you're using Premiere Pro and After Effects you can probably make do with a 5900x and a 3060 GPU. That will help bring the costs down considerably.

Downgrading the CPU, GPU and motherboard lets us save a good chunk of money while still being able to handle your applications comfortably.

If you want to get closer to £2k, you could downgrade the CPU further to the 5800x and still get good performance. Thee is not too much difference between the 5800x and 5900x in Puget Systems” benchmarks.

If you won’t be using your current PC any more, you could transfer the Windows licence to the new build and save around £100.

This is with the 5800x and no OS.

If I was to be able to get enough money together for this is it possible to upgrade the ram to 128gb without changing anything else?

I'm afraid 'the someone' is mistaken.

Windows will use as much RAM as it possibly can, any additional installed RAM is just unused. On my 16GB system I regularly have as much as 6GB marked as 'Free' (ie. unused). Buying 128GB without actually having applications that can use that RAM is a total waste of money.

there is for rendering and production tho, 12 core is definitely better in that case

The 5900x will have some performance benefits, it they are not huge in most operations and it all depends on whether the OP wants to spend the money for the extra performance. If money was no object we would all have the fastest of everything just to eke out ever decreasing performance improvements. I could spend more money to get a faster car with more acceleration, but there comes a point where, for me, it is not worth the extra expense.

@Bigfoot. I'm no expert but I think the differential for Premier is about 10% in favour of the 5900X. So it helps but only to a modest degree.

I think After Effects makes little use of higher core counts, so the performance differential between a 5800X and 5900X is minimal. Adobe did, however, launch a multi-frame rendering beta earlier this year. So higher core counts could be useful in the future. That will sort of take us back about five years to before Adobe took out that ability.

I've got 16GB on the laptop and only use about 50% of that when rendering 4K video
