Choice of ssd and cpu for Lafite

I'm planning to get a Lafite with 8Gb ram, the i5 or i7 cpu, and a single ssd of around 250Gb. It will be used with Windows, Ubuntu and VMs for general purposes, plus some editing/processing of large video files.

Are there any performance reasons for choosing one of the following ssd rather than the others:
240GB KINGSTON V300 or 250GB Samsung 850 EVO in the HD space; or the Crucial 250GB MX200 M.2 2280 SSD ?

Also, would the i7 give significantly improved performance over the i5 in the video work?

The V300 SSD's have performance issues and do not reach the stated read/write speeds. The Samsung or HyperX are the best bang for buck.

Probably not too much difference between the 5200U and 5500U, both are hyperthreaded dual cores giving 4 virtual cores.

Up to you whether you see the slight advantages the i7 provides are worth the extra cost.

I got the following configuration and was wondering whether the i5 would have been the better choice. The fan seems to kick in quite a bit which I think might be due to the i7.

Both chips have a TDP of 15W, so if the fans are kicking in when the CPU is under load I would imagine that the i7 would handle the tasks slightly better than the i5 and therefore be quieter overall. Depending on how old the comp is and how dusty it is where the comp is used you could try cleaning the fans/heat exchanger with compressed air and/or replacing the thermal paste.

I chose the 250GB MX200 M.2 SSD and i5 myself for the same usage such as yours (minus the video editing, to be honest you shouldn't do video editing with a 13.3" laptop anyway) and its working nicely .
There is no big advantage in that i7 over the i5 and i'd say it's not worth it.

Thanks for the reply. For the editing (which is not very much) I hook up a larger monitor - and either of these processors would be much faster than what I've been using till now (a 1st generation i3).

With regards to the i5 vs i7 I was wondering if the i7 larger L3 cache would be helpful, especially as both the i5 and i7 have a smaller L2 cache than the i3 330M I'm using at present. Any thoughts?
