Defiance 17" 980m 180W power supply enough?

I have a concern that the power supply for the defiance 17" 980m may throttle the performance of the laptop as there was problem with some people claiming that the 2015 alienware 17 (a fairly similar laptop) 180W power supply throttled the performance of the laptop.

I might be looking at this wrong but when I look at my order for the defiance, it comes with a 180W power supply, can anyone tell me if that's enough since other laptops like the vortex IV and the Asus G751JY have a 230W power supply.

Thanks

Yes it is enough as long as you don't overclock. The problem with the Alienware was an issue with the Bios but could be circumvented with a higher power PSU but it was eventually fixed thus removing the throttling even on the 180W PSU.

You can see the link i've posted for a review of the 15 inch Defiance and can see its power draw on there. It's lower than the 180 Watts provided by the PSU so you should be good :)

Ah I see, thanks. I dug around a little more it does seem to a be bios problem for the Alienware.
I was a bit skeptical that a 180W is sufficient because of the 980m but by the looks of it 180W should be fine.

I think the higher spec laptop psu's are for 980's in conjunction with the desktop i7's - I upgraded from a 970m to a 980m in my Octane 15.6 and was forced to spec the 330w laptop psu on the ordering system, which suggests there's an underlying conformity required when ordering.

Yes the desktop I7's have a much higher TDP and thus much higher power draws than the laptop i7's thus the higher powered PSU's. Plus some of them are k variants and are thus designed to be overclocked thus requiring even more power, so obviously much higher PSU's are required :)
