Hi all of a sudden my battery stopped charging and now sits at 0% and shown as Idle

The power light on the laptop is flashing orange, the power brick is barely warm (I have ordered a replacement)

I have disable the drivers for the batteries and rebooted the laptop

I have opened up the laptop and looked at the battery and this laptop (attached photo) there is a small screw on the right of the battery and apparently one on the left is this under the ssd drive ?

I may need to replace the battery, is a video of how to do this on this laptop ?

For infor the laptop is less than 1 year old replacing my old 10 year old machine (which still works just)

Any ideas or help regarding this will be fantastic

Kind Regards

Garry

Removing the battery should be fairly straight forward. Just use delicate fingers and a nice space to work in and you'll be fine. Have a soft non-fibre cloth down (or even a mouse mat) to lay the parts onto as you take them out.

First remove the battery cable (going down the middle of the battery)
Remove the screw holding in the M2 drive. I would personally put this screw back in the mounting spot.
Remove the 2 supporting screws on the battery bracket (the one you identified and the one under the M2 drive).

This should hopefully allow removal of the battery.

If you want detailed instructions I would contact PCS directly in regards to your incoming battery.

Unfortunately it's not unusual to see battery failure and premature wear etc. If you're heavy on the battery (or don't use it at all and sit on charge all the time) this can happen. My battery on my Octane lasted around 3 years before being completely dead like you are experiencing. I haven't bothered replacing it though as it's a DTR so always plugged in anyway.

Hi Scott,

Thank you so much for your reply, I thought the other screw was under the drive (oh joy) everything is so tightly packed together on these modern laptops

Did try restoring the laptop as this has only just happened may have resolved the issue, but no, will install a new battery and hope it works.

Thanks again for your help

Kind Regards

The "Drive" is the M2 drive that I mentioned above. The memory stick looking thing at the left hand side. You can see a single screw holding the drive in.

Have another look at the instructions that I wrote and let me know if anything needs clarified as there seems confusion to what I wrote.

Edit: Wait, I think you were agreeing and re-affirming your fear rather than querying what the drive was haha. Hopefully all covered anyway.

Unfortunately restoration is unlikely to restore a battery. You can do some commands to attempt to get it to do a deep cycle but I've never had any success so a new battery is likely best.
