Hey guys, originally I was thinking about investing into a desktop PC, but it'll be a lot more logical to get a laptop for portability etc. I am looking into a laptop which will fall into the £900-1000 price range which will cover the following.

- 15 inch
- Optimus
- day to day browsing
- general work
- multiple applications at once (nothing intensive, YouTube etc)
- gaming *important, looking to play wildstar*

Here are the minimum specs for Wildstar;

CPU: Intel Pentium Core2 Duo 2.4 GHz, AMD Phenom X3 2.3 GHz, or better
CPU Speed: Info
RAM: 4 GB
OS: Windows XP
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, ATI Radeon HD 3850, or better
Sound Card: Yes
Free Disk Space: 30 GB

Recommended;

CPU: Intel Core i5 Quad Core 2.66GHz or better, AMD Phenom II X4 3GHz, or better
CPU Speed: Info
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows Vista (64-bit)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or ATI Radeon HD 5830
Sound Card: Yes
Free Disk Space: 30 GB

Thanks all!

Thanks for the response, apologies I didn't know what section to post in. If I had an extra 80-90 pounds to spend what do you recommend in terms of an upgrade?

another thread? Why don't you stick to the original one? It prevents others from repeating the advice you got and you can get better feedback as well.

Only reason I didn't merge them is that the OP was looking for a desktop last time and this is a laptop... However, I will merge them as the advice given could be the same for both.

As A314159 said about the previous, try a Hyper X SSD. The hybrid drives are not up to much, you have no control on what goes where on them and you need the OS and main progs on the SSD part. A Kingston Hyper X 120 GB along with a Scorpio Black (750GB) second drive will be about 50 quid more but be a better option.

Since your last post in the other (merged) thread was about laptops as well, I've merged your threads together and moved them to this section of the forums, it's better to keep to the same thread where possible because it means people are less likely to ask/answer the same things multiple times.

Sorry this is confusing me haha, I thought the thread didn't post last night but it got merged into this one. Apologies, any spec recommendations greatly appreciated.

Get the cheapest quad core processor around, the cheapest 8gb RAM you can find and then find a chassis with a GPU that uses the rest of most of your budget. Then get a decent HDD, an SSD if you want, and customise with weird extra like thermal paste.

You'll be glad you went with a faster graphics card if you go for this rig. An SSD can be added at a later date if required. I also chose the Vortex over the slightly cheaper Skyfire due to having a 6GB 870m over the 3GB 870m. Until last week I thought that 3GB was a huge amount of vram but then Ubisoft released Watchdogs. If that's anything to go by then future open world cross-platform games could perform better with extra vram due to the consoles having 8GB of unified ram.
