Hi everyone,

below are some specs for a new system which I would like to build for university. I am studying multimedia and require this computer for 3ds max. If possible would someone please be able to tell me if this looks ok. It meets recommended requirements for 3ds max, but is there anything in here which may seem like an overkill or something which I may have missed in order for this machine to run correctly? I am also looking into running Skyrim when it comes out later on next year.

They are good cards and processors. You will have no problem with them. With your budget you need to be looking at an AMD spec as you get much better value for money. Intel CPU's are stronger but a LOT more expensive and AMD's line up have more than enough power to do anything that's required on a PC. And to be honest you probably wouldn't even notice the difference, the GPU is more important when it comes to gaming and the 6950 is a very strong card, at a good price, so you will be able to run most games very well. Also as you are on a budget 8GB RAM is not really necessary as it is just a means of future proofing (unless you will be doing a lot of video editing and the like), 4GB will be more than enough for gaming and whatever else you need to do.

In the future I may require to do some form of video editing so maybe getting 8gb memory is probably worth spending the extra bit of money. :). Thanks for your help with this, I'm going to get this ordered at some point within the next few days, very exiting :). I may also consider moving up to a 1tb hard drive as it will be helpful for when I do some of the video editing.

Thanks again
Jamie
