Headphone jack problematic - Vortex 17.3"

For a long time now the headphone jack has been misbehaving. After a powerdown and startup, the jack works, and when you insert a pair of headphones or external speakers it is fine. But do this a few times (sometimes only once) and then the jack stops working completely. The computer still knows that there is a plug in the socket, or not, but there is no output from the headphones or the speakers. At that point you need to powerdown completely again.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Specs are:

Laptop Vortex 17.3"
Intel 5.1 Channel High Definition Audio + SPDIF/MIC/Headphone Jack
Windows 7 Ultimate
Realtek audio driver 6.0.1.7156
