Hello I'm new here I have a dell xps 600 about 7 yrs old and now is very outdated lol. I really want a laptop instead of the desktop as I use email for work when away and would like to play my favourite games too on the road :yes: . Any how this is the system I put together my budget is £1500.00 in total this is the first time of buying a custom system rather than a prebuilt one and I would really appreciate if any of you have the time to have a quick look over it and give it the professional verdict??? Any changes or thoughts are most welcome as I'm not a computer expert!! I'm buying this to primarily play total war games shogun 2 and fall of the samurai. But also would like a system that will last a gd few yrs too thanks

yep it looks like a great system and should be more than powerful in playing shogun 2.

That system will blast through shogun 2 no problems at all. Infact unless you have anything more taxing for it i would advise a few downgrades.

1. You can drop the processor to the 2.20Ghz variant of the i7 and save yourself £100 right off the bat, and for your uses it wont impact on the performance at all.
2. You can drop the GPU to the 670M and save a whole bunch more, i would only advise this if you don't plan to play any other newer rleased games that are very graphics focused. If you think you may get into other games later then keep it at the 675M for just that bit more oomph.
3. Standard wireless is probably fine, the 'gaming card' isn't going to help that much. If it's range your worried about then get the ULTIMATE-N 6300, it's the same price as the killer but with a better range.

Thanks manta dog I will Change the wireless card as a better range is most welcome in my house : ). This lappy is to play shogun 2 but I also want it to play new total war games too when they are brought out but if you think the lower i7 will run them I will get that plus go for the lower graphics card save some money : ) . I have ps3 and xbox for cod and bf3 so only plan to play strategy games on the lappy. Thanks for your advice I will put a new spec up if u don't mind having a look . Cheers buddy

For strategy games the 670m and a slightly slower CPU will be perfectly fine. I would only advise keeping the beefy GPU if you were going to play games like BF3, which love to take as much GPU power as they can.

The downgrade to the 2.20Ghz processor is a 10% step down in performance, which you wont be able to notice for gaming.

If you apply both those changes it will be a nice saving indeed, feel free to post up the revised spec and get soem feedback on it.

Hi all, well I was going to order this system this week but I'm not too sure whether to wait for ib to come out?? Would the cost drop for the system above once ib comes out? I really want this laptop to last at least 4 yrs of gaming with not many upgrades! Thanks for your help

Oh yes and before I forget is it worth getting the matt screen? Or just stick with the glossy? Never owned a laptop before so want to get it right first time : )

The price will drop, but how much I really can't say. What will probably happen is that PCS just replace the sandy processors with ivy processors and charge the same.

As for the screen. I see alot of good things said about matte screens especially if you work near a window or even outside it will help the most.
