IGN Ratings for Crysis 2 (PC)
Rating Description
out of 10 Click here for ratings guide
9.0 Presentation
Crysis 2 folds all of its interface into a slick, elegant in-game solution that draws you further in. The story has holes, but remains interesting throughout.
9.5 Graphics
Crysis 2 on PC outshines its console counterparts with better textures, higher resolutions, and framerates. It's one of the best looking games on PC, easily.
9.5 Sound
Fantastic sound effects and positional audio are complimented by one of the best orchestral scores I've ever heard in a game.
9.0 Gameplay
Crysis offers a unique play experience that emphasizes clever power usage against smart AI. It plays fantastically well - when it's working.
9.5 Lasting Appeal
The campaign may last as long as 11 hours, and features a new game+ hook. With a fully realized multiplayer mode, Crysis 2 could keep your interest for quite a while.

Most of the major reviewers such as IGN are bought-out in my opinion, as they often rate bad games well (from major publishers) or good games bad (which are from non-major publishers/devs). From what I can tell from numerous player reviews I've seen so far, is that it is nothing more than a console-port with linear gameplay. The multiplayer being rather generic too.

Erm yeah you read the user scores on gamespot then?
Nothing but very positive scores for pc on there

Crysis 2 being in a city is going to be more linear than the first, bet if it was more like the first game and as open it would've got slated as nothing new here same crysis just updated graphics and diff story which seems to be the trend if its not original or throws new ideas then it's a shit game

I for one am looking forward to crysis 2, may turn up today but will prob have online authentication so will ave to wait till Fri night.

(If it is s**t, which it won't be, but if it is ill take this back)

I have no doubt that it's going to be a good game, my concern lies on whether this will be an exceptional game. Linear I can deal with, HL2 had a linear story and, imo, still possesses the best single player campaign in any shoot 'em up ever made. I'm hoping Crysis 2 has a campaign that lives up to that calibre of legacy.

I doubt I'll be buying it now either way. There's better games out there that I'd rather spend my money on.

Just wanted to update my thoughts on crysis 2, played it for around 3- 4 hours last night and it blew me away absolute stunning game, i wanna replay it and have not finished it yet! , no way a console port, it would probably take 2 ps3's and 3 xbox360's combined to achieve the graphics i saw last night, gameplay is great too love shooting while on the slide, and running jumping and landing on an overturned bus, it all feels like it's done in 1 movement as the animation is smooth and just works.

I'm getting between 32 and 45 fps on 1920 x 1080 on extreme so all in all very happy this morning! And I'm sure my performance will increase when nvidia release new drivers.

Wish I had a nanosuit though........

I also bought Crysis 2.

It is definitely a console port. The graphics are really quite poor, when you consider what's come before. And I am also running it on "max settings" (which are a ****ing joke, you can't even tinker with GFX settings, there are just 3 modes, 'High', 'Very High' and 'Extreme'). Graphically I'd put it just above BF2:BC, which is what, 2 years old now? It's just plain laziness on the game designer's part.

The game itself is pretty fun. I'm about 3 hours into it at the minute, and between the Nano Suit and the enemy AI (which I have to say is one of the better features of the game), there are a number of ways you can approach battles. Plot wise, it seems quite awful so far. I never played the first one so I don't know if it's continuing from that, or if I haven't got far enough into the game to have everything explained to me.

I don't know if I'm missing something or not, but right now I'd rate this game a generous 7/10, which is a shame, as I was expecting a high 9/10. I will update this thread if this opinion radically changes at any point.

I'm confused why people are saying its a console port, It is not a console port, it was produced from scratch on all 3 platforms, not made on console and then ported to pc, i think it's the setting/level design where they had to keep consoles in mind, so the design had to be something consoles could run.

This game would no doubt have been different if it was a pc only game but consoles are where the money is for game developers.

I personally love the game or maybe it's just the nanosuit!?

I also love reading how console gamers have been short changed by having a drastically watered down version with terrible frame rates, i read the 360 res output is less than 720p for this game.

I'm relatively new to crysis which is probably why I don't hate it as much as most on here, completed crysis twice not played warhead.

Ne way not a console port just designed with consoles in mind.

You can customise your crysis 2 visuals following the instructions found here IGN "tweaking crysis visuals

I played a few hours last night and i can say im deeply disappointed by the visuals, the game itself is quite good but it looks like **** okay that was a bit harsh and maybe it's cause i remember the original being breathtaking or that i just finished bound in blood (which by the way is one of the best looking games i've ever played :tooth:) I'm still disappointed...

Hopefully they do patch in directx 11 and get some better lighting effects

Heya

I dont want to sound tooo negative but well. (off info I am a game art and design student and I'll study games bla bla bla) either way In my opinion the Crysis 2 official release is fail. There is more bugs than in the leaked BETA! (I know I played ;O ), further more minimum advance in graphic comparing to crysis 1... Its a good game, but it would be 2x better if they didnt spend 50% of resources on remaking the cryengine for consols and so on... I guess PC community can grab popcorn and w8 2-6 years untill consoles catch up with our current pcs untill we see some advances in cgi :)

Good news trho no need to upgrade our pcs to max out future games lol :)

When I say 'Console Port', what I mean is it was clearly designed with Consoles in mind, then they just slapped a 'better' (i use the term loosely) graphics option on the PC version and voila.
It's not a game made for the PC. It doesn't look like a game made for the PC, it doesn't feel like a game made for the PC. It looks and plays like a game made for a game console, with slightly better visuals. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but absolutely no effort has gone into making this game a special release for the PC.

Which is why everyone is pissed, cause that's exactly what the first game was. A very special game made for the PC, that pushed GFX tech to its limits.

Ok, it's all down to money at the end of the day and why would crytek make a game for one platform when they can maybe make more than triple their profit with all three. Maybe crysis 3 will be more like crysis 1 and pc only and crytek are using console gamers to fund it who knows. It would certainly have been a different game if made for pc only.
But will have to be treated as a standalone sequal like other any other fps on all three platforms but with something different to offer, i find other fps boring with no nanosuit abilities.

Latest news on DX11 crysis 2, looking better ................

It also didn't help that the PC port didn't even throw a bone at the PC gamers in the form of an advanced graphics options menu. The fact that Crysis - a hardware junkie's wet dream - devoid of an advanced graphics tweaking menu was nothing short of sacrilege. According to Maximum PC, Crytek has confirmed the patch and will be releasing it tomorrow.

PC gamers may rue that Crytek has sold out, but DX11 or not our Crysis 2 performance preview did show that the game was optimised quite well, and yet looked relatively good. Here's hoping the DX11 patch brings it up to the awesomeness of the original Crysis. Although, we aren't holding our breaths.*
