Just received my new machine. I haven't switched it on yet but am still disappointed

This is not a review. That is still to come.

I was under the impression I was buying a graphics card from Nvidia. Yes I know they make the GPU's in all the different brands, but at no point was I informed that I was buying a Zotac card. No, I've never heard of them either.

Here's what it said on my order...

pcs order.PNG

Here's what is says in the selection...

pcs select.PNG

Here's the card I thought I was getting advertised on the PCS main page ( a 1060 rather than my 1070)

pcs gtx.PNG

And here is the actual card I received

zotec.jpg

No where in the order does it mention Zotac, yet under the description of Graphics card is says 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1070 There is no reference to the Zotac brand or anything to say it is not an Invidia built card.

Click here to see what I thought I was getting

I repeat I do know that nVidia make the GPU's for all mannor of brands of graphic cards, but I was led to believe I was getting this - click -- ash shown on the fron page of PC Specialist

I don't know what else to say, it's taken all of the pleasure out of receiving a new computer. I'm sure the card will probably be fine, but I feel a little cheated or at best misled by PCS

I think you're getting a little confused. There are lots of third parties that make Nvidia graphics cards. Nvidia do not make any themselves but rather provide the base architecture for third party resellers (like zotac, palit, evga, asus, etc.) to make cards based on.

The card you've repeatedly referenced is essentially the 'reference' card and without doing some googling I don't know if the zotac card you have received is actually just a reference card with a bit of branding on (most likely) or if its actually any different (possible but doesn't appear to be the case here).

The card you received IS a nvidia card and I don't think any nvidia cards have nvidia branding on them because they ALL come from third parties (ie Zotac, Palit, ASUS, EVGA, etc.)...

EDIT: I realise that you can actually buy cards direct from NVidia (at least via their website), as mentioned above they are the reference designs (they are calling them the 'founders edition' for this series. The card you received is still a nvidia 1070, only difference that I know of is the looks/branding of the card. I would imagine the circuitry inside is either identical or has been improved on the reference design.

I'm sorry but they do make their own cards as well

this is what I thought I was getting. Please steaky, I do understand how nVidia make the 'base architecture' as you say, but I thought I was getting an Invidia made card.

Maybe I should just walk away and cool down a bit, I'm still terribly disappointed

NVidia is not a make, it's an architecture, they release the silicone and guidance on pcb and power phase design. You have a zotac reference card which is the design that nvidia suggest to manufacturers, manufacturers then release those cards as founders editions, then they go off and develop their own custom designs based on the founders edition. You have a NVidia GTX 1070 founders edition manufactured by Zotac. There's no such thing as a an NVidia built card, they don't manufacture cards.

PCS are a custom build site catering for enthusiasts who want exactly what they want in a rig, not what's forced upon them by an off the shelf product. As such, they assume (quite rightly) that the buyer understands the terminology or researches it to find out.

If you notice my signature it states I have a GTX 1080 FE, I haven't put the make because it doesn't make any difference to the card, anyone who knows about graphics would know exactly what it is.

Apologies for that, I'd corrected an earlier post to say you can buy the cards direct from their website but wasn't quick enough! Sorry for any confusion. My point however is as you say, the cards will be functionally identical so unless your concerns are specifically about the looks of the card (which I believe will be the only difference) I think you'll come to see there's not an issue once you use it.

Once you get it turned on and get gaming you'll be loving it!

It's an architecture? It's a massive corporation mainly producing graphic processing units, it's main product line is GeForce, they do sell their own cards here. CLICK THIS LINK

I don't understand quite you mean by the above, I do know about graphics, about how other brands use the nvidia base. I hope you didn't mean to be condescending as I have read many of your posts and respect your opinion. This is the second time I have bought from PCS. Mainly because I trust them.

I'm simply dissapointed that I did not recieve an nVidia GeForce card as shown on the front page of the PCS website.

Please don't take this as an angry rant, it's really not. Maybe it's an opportunity for PCS to clarify their choice of Graphics cards, not as shown, but by a company called Zotac.

I'm loving the machine as a whole so far. Will submit a review after a week

I did not initially want to chime in on this as it could go on for ages, but I feel I need to answer one specific element that has not been answered yet.

The image on the front page of PCS, as well as the images on the Nvidia website themselves are simply unbranded royalty free stock images. They do not represent the end product but more the reference design with no branding at all. As per the below link, most of the images found are the stock images of the Nvidia 1080 reference design.

And just for the record, Zotac are one of the top Graphics card manufacturers. PCS's previous supplier was Palit, but have recently switched to using the Zotac cards.

I think they actually use both, as the machine I got 2 weeks ago had a Palit 1070.

Thanks LFF and Rakk,

I just thought I was getting an nVidia built GeForce card and was initially disappointed and expressed myself here. Maybe food for thought for PCS, maybe not.

As Staeky predicted I am loving the machine's capability so far. The card manufacturer will not be relevant in my review.

On a side note, my 11 year old son thinks the graphics rock in Mine Craft LOL :D
