Looking at new PC

I am currently exploring upgrading my PC after 8 years - I have very little patience for partial upgrades so I tend to invest in a relatively decent rig that i hope will last 5+ years at a minimum.

I am currently considering a rig with the below specs and was wondering if anyone is able to offer me any feedback that I should consider? From what I consider i am pretty future proofed with this. I don't game to 4K but think it can offer the capability for it should I go for it down the line. My main concern I guess is whether the Processer is overkill - GPU cost is usually the monster nowadays, so the cost of the i9 didnt really put me off. But I've heard that the i9-14900K runs quite hot and I am wondering, even with the cooler I've selected below, whether anyone can advise on how noisy the beast would be (ie is it distracting).

  • Case: Corsair 6500X Tempered Glass Mid Tower Dual Chamber
  • CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K (24-core, up to 6.0GHz, 36MB Cache)
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi (LGA1700, DDR5, PCIe 4.0, Wi-Fi 6E)
  • Memory: 64GB (2x32GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz CL30
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16GB (Palit GamingPro, HDMI, 3x DisplayPort)
  • 1st SSD (For the OS & key programs): 1TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe Gen 4 (7450MB/s read, 6900MB/s write)
  • 2nd SSD (For Games): 4TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe Gen 4 (7450MB/s read, 6900MB/s write)
  • 3rd SSD (General/Media): 2TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe Gen 4 (7450MB/s read, 6900MB/s write)
  • PSU: Corsair RMx 850W ATX 3.1 (Modular, CYBENETICS Gold)
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE Link TITAN 360 RX RGB 360mm AIO (280W TDP)
  • Thermal Paste: ID-Cooling Frost X45 High Performance Application
  • Extra Case Fans: 4x 120mm Thermaltake TOUGHFAN 12
  • Sound: Onboard 6 Channel (5.1) High Definition Audio
  • Network: Onboard LAN Port + Onboard Wi-Fi (via motherboard)
  • USB Expansion: PCIe Card – 4x USB 3.0 (Type-A) + Standard USB Ports

Cheers for any feedback.

Stay away from INTEL! It's DOA :)

What's the purpose of the system? What monitor will you pair with it? What's your max budget?

Intel are broken, they literally melt at the core, Intel replaced affected processors last september and rolled out 4 microcode fixes, each claiming to be “the fix” but we’ve started getting new reports of those replacements failing so it’s clear it’s not fixed

Thanks - Yes I threw a quick thing together but doing some reading now it seems Intel is a bit of a dead end. Downside of working how I do, upgrading once every few years, is I don't stay in the loop and constantly have to catch up.

Apparently AMD processors are the play now? Monitor wise I use a 1440p - i don't plan to go to 4k currently but would like the option i guess my budget is around £3,500 ideally at the top end.

Purpose of the system is gaming - Monitor is Asus, 144gz
Here's my suggestion for your high-end 1440p gaming PC, but I'd advise to get a decent OLED monitor to pair it with.

1) Gigabyte FO27Q2 - 27'' 1440p

2) Gigabyte MO34WQC2 - 34'' Ultrawide 1440p

N.B. You can save approx £110 transfering your current OS license to the new machine.

Case
LIAN LI O11DYNAMIC EVO RGB GAMING CASE - One of the best case available; I'd like it more than 6500X but it's personal.
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Eight Core CPU (Up to 5.2GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - Best gaming CPU on the market.
Motherboard

GIGABYTE X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 (AM5, DDR5, M.2 PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 7) - Best value MB in my opinion, with the premium chipset X870E.
Memory (RAM)

32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (2 x 16GB) - 64GB are overkill for gaming.
Graphics Card

16GB SAPPHIRE PULSE RADEON™ RX 9070 XT GAMING - 2 x HDMI, 2 x DP - Best value 1440p GPU.
1st M.2 SSD Drive

1TB CRUCIAL T705 GEN 5 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 14,500MB/sR, 12,700MB/sW) - Gen5 OS Drive.
1st M.2 SSD Drive

4TB CORSAIR CORE XT MP600 NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (up to 5000 MB/R, 4400 MB/W) - Gen4 Games Drive.
1st Storage Drive

2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 256MB CACHE - HDD Storage Drive.
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1200W HXi SERIES™ ATX 3.1 & 5.1 PCIe MODULAR 80 PLUS® PLATINUM V2 - Higher tier PSU; the bare minimum for a build like that IMHO.
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
