Amazing shop you have and totally pro looking web site.
Ultranote configuration options and spot on prices (not expensive, not suspiciously cheap) makes you the best PC laptops retailer I haven't see for ages!

Just some ideas here for Ultranote, if you want have a look. I wouldn't mind paying some premium if possible to implement these:
  • - backlit keyboard
    OR
  • Thinklight style LED? at the place instead of webcam maybe?
    OR
  • maybe somekind of extra luminous neon paint for the letters so that screen light reflects them well in the dark?
  • - HDD caddy instead of DVD drive (so could choose SSD as C partition + cheap HDD for storage)
  • - dedicated Volume + and - buttons
  • - AMD APU A8 and above? They are really on par with intel i3 and i5 in real life + their slightly better IGP?

Anyhoo must say thank you for having the option to configure own laptop for affordable price! Was bout time someone can compete with Intel and Co. stupidly overpriced and under-performing Ultrabooks. Wouldn't you hate it things like mini-VGA or soldered RAM etc..?

they dont manufacture the chassis though, they buy in barebone systems they can customise to an extent. So as much as it would be nice to have backlighting its not really in PCS control to do so. With regards to the dvd drive could you not order it without one and do it yourself?

I havent heard anything good about AMD for years and previous experiences mean I would never go back to em anyways.

Agree about the OVER priced stuff out there, I dont know why anyone would buy em if they spent half an hour researching before hand.

Yeah there are caddies available for few quids, to replace optical drive, but will it fit? PCS ultranote isn't a known brand model.. how to know what shape/size caddy to buy?

Backlit keyboard would be just spot on addition for PCS configurator - I know for sure so many people need backlight but you don't get it unless buying £800+ laptop.
There was some £500 sony or acer laptop with baklit keyboard but other specs were bad.
When you see odd LED strips cost few quid.. insert them under the keyboard and connect to some small power source on motherboard. PCS 14 and 11.6 inch laptops are not too thin , could accommodate a strip or two of LED lights underneath ?
MAybe even to design somehow and use optical drive space for backlights purpose.. ? dunno just an idea I think is more useful than optical drives.

It is a Clevo W540EU; you can probably download the manual from the Clevo site. It has a section on upgrading CD/drive; maybe that gives you enough clues for what caddy to buy???

Thanks for that model number. Might have a look. Would be easier to have it once off straight from the same retailer. Or.. do PCS do caddies.. didn't check actually
