Minimum requirements to play all current games on high

I was wondering if any of you guys could help me out here, i want to get a gaming pc that is going to be able to play all the games out now on at least high settings at good fps. But i'm not sure what is the cheapest way of going about doing this (whilst keeping the quality at this point). If i can avoid it i don't want to be spending over the top for something that is better than what i need.

So long question short, if you could post some set ups for me to check out (inc. monitors please) then i would genuinely really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot guys,
Aaeron

It depends on your budget and what you consider good fps.

Well generally, most developers work out the recommended requirements for their game by using high settings @60fps, which is very smooth

So seeing as you are looking at high settings, i would look at the most demanding game you will be playing, battlefield 3 and metro 2033 are both very demanding if you play either and you can always ask here which game we think would be most demanding and would be happy to help

Sorry this is pushing your £800 give or take £50ish budget a little but with having a monitor included in the budget does limit the GPU choice quite a bit and the best i can see would be this spec with a GTX560Ti which will at 1920 X 1080 on max settings on BF3 will give you about 42 FPS average so you would get a slight increase on high settings.

Well as i do not have that GPU i can only find info like that from reviews and benchmarks, come on Wozza do you think i just make it up ? anyway here is the benchmark results i looked at and before you start with why was i looking at the GTX670 review and benchmarks it is because BF3 was not out when the GTX560Ti was released.

fair enough, i wasnt moaning, i also have 16xCSAA turned on in the nvidia control panel as well as a few other things there, so i probably get some lower frame rates and i was getting 40 fps on that really demanding scene when you have the fight, I don't know what its like everywhere else but i imagine its higher

I was hoping it was possible to put something together that would be cheaper than this...

Just a quickie for you guys, i know you're all a bit bias but why not:

Is paying the extra £500+ just to be able to play games on a pc as apposed to playing them on console worth it? Considering it's £500 extra at a minimum at the start, then updating it all the time for as long as you have it. where as a console is a flat starting price and will play all games until the next one comes out. Seeing as i've never had one i wouldn't know, but is it really worth it?

Honest answers would be nice, thanks guys.

I have a PS3 Slim that I have not used since purchasing my new desktop from PCS, I had some games (Batman, Resident Evil) in both ps3 and PC and by I prefer playing it on my pc, better graphics by far and as you mentioned it is possible to update/upgrade your PC but you can't do that with a console. PC games are usually cheaper as well.

I love PC gaming, i have barely touched my Xbox since i got it, here are a few reasons:

Keyboard and mouse - so much more responsive and i prefer it in every way, of course, you can always use a controller if you want to relax
Graphics - originally the reason i bought a gaming PC was so i could play BF3 at maximum settings, console settings on bf3 is the equivalent to low settings on PC
Cheaper games - Brand new, console games are usually £40, whereas the PC versions are usually £30 sometimes even cheaper
Its not just a gaming machine - it does so much more than a console that isn't to do with gaming, i needed a replacement for my laptop anyway and now i have a superfast internet browser, music player etc
Customization - You can build a PC to how you want it, and get the parts you think look good, such as the case, keyboard, mouse and internal parts if you plan on looking inside
Consoles break (a lot) - I had Xbox for four years and during that period, i had RROD 3 times, luckily i know a guy who repairs it for £20 otherwise it would have been £60 each time, then after the third time i spent another £200 on another one
Cheap accesories - of course you can just get cheap accesories for a PC that are usually very good, especially the lower end logitech stuff, whereas the cheap stuff for consoles, such as the microphones are low quality and break too easily
Mods - mods allow you to do so much more with your game, you can add new weapons, cars, improved textures etc making possibilities endless, and best thing, is mods are FREE
Steam - Super cheap sales, i have bought full games for as little as 74p as they just go crazy with their sales and often have 75% off sales, maybe more
Better online community - no 8 year old kids screaming down the microphone (which goes through your TV if you dont have the mic plugged in) this is rare in PC gaming as the parents don't want to spend that much
No connection issues - All i ever had on xbox was problems with connecting to certain people in xbox live parties, and I was also stopped from joining servers because of a moderate NAT type, never had any of these problems with TeamSpeak on PC

just my two pennies
