Hi All

I was wondering how many mmo's do people play and how much cost does it incurr to keep up the monthly fees for them as there is that many out there I'm struggling to narrow it down to a couple as to keep the costs down my 2 option so far is

1) RiFT
2) star wars old replubic ( when it's released )

I'm not sure what your actually asking, are you asking for advice on which MMO's to play? If so then you probably wont get any better advice then to try them out for youself as most of them (unless new) offer a trial of some sort. Visit www.mmorpg.com to help see whats out there, just because I like Rift, doesn't mean that someone else will, same as film critics, Sucker Punch had terrible reviews, I personally loved every minute of it. As for price most MMO's cost roughly anywhere from £8-£12 p/m.

I play numerous mmo's, most of them free, some not.
the one i tend to play most is probably World of warcraft, and i have several accounts (on US, two EU, etc) playing it on and off and keeping upw ith expansions.. about £100 a year maybe?

EVE i've played on and off.. lots of little free to play MMo's i delve in on occasion, eh.

I'm waiting for guildwars 2 to come out, the previous game/expansions were pretty popular so i'd like to get in on the ground floor with the new one.. best of all - no subscription fees! which suits an on/off gamer like myself perfectly.

www.mpogd.com is good as you can search by platform ( browser/installer etc) cost, type of play, 3d/2d etc, give that a try, and most mmo's will give you a trial so as suggested above, shop about, give things a trial and see what you like before subscribing to anything.

Played plenty of them over the years. I do TRY and stick to just 2 at once (costs etc), but have been known to have 4 on the go at once (when was I ever going to play all 3?!)

Fee Based: Currently I have WoW (suppose main on, for my sins) and EVE (skill training, not a lot else for a couple of years :) )

Free Based: Champions Online (awesome game, really is!), GW (technically) and LOTRO (VIP baby!)

Future: Can add SWTOR to my fee paid. I dont actually care how good it is, imma play! GW2 will be awesome, and for a free to play game, you cant even argue...because its free!

I don't view MMO Subs as a burden - you get what you pay for. And at the end of the day, one less pint a week, and you have your monthly fee

(so if number of games = n, and the price of [insert treat here] = x, then n * x = FUN)

Fee's for MMO's are good and bad. Fee's mean more money for the company to put into the game. However, fee's with WoW as a prime example, leads to the developers to try and keep the players playing as long as possible, meaning they'll only release content that makes you play longer, which isn't necessarily making the game better or more fun, new content has 1 job, and it's to keep you playing.

Free MMO's such as GW release extra content either as expansions or patches, but even for the little fee you pay for a expansion, you feel like the developers want to make a fun/good game, not one that is holding onto you, tipping you upside down and tries to shake every last penny out of your pockets before you manage to escape.

I've spent 6+ years in WoW, and that's how I feel, only reason I keep playing it is because all other good MMO's I've enjoyed, keeps failing and crumbling, whether it's because of bad game engines (Warhammer Online), unfinished content (Age of Conan, 1-30ish was done, rest was bare, no quests at all, had to grind the rest.) or games like Aion, and other Asian MMO's that simply don't have a great appeal to the European market. They all start off great, and generally fail.

I'm personally looking forward to Guild Wars 2, because, unlike the previously mentioned MMO's (Excluding WoW), they've all failed and the dev's have shoved their heads in the sand, Guild Wars and Arena Net was a successful game to a certain degree, and now they have MMO experience and can pump that knowledge into Guild Wars 2 and make it a excellent game, and yet without any fees, make a game for gamers, and not one for their own money gain.
I've done mass amounts of research about GW 2 and Arena Net, and they really seem genuine when it comes down to the reason they're making the game.

SWTOR is a bit like GW as well, since there was a Starwars Galaxy MMO, meaning it'll have a playerbase already which will be moving. Plus, it's made by Bioware, kings of RPG's.

PS: Another thing that's sold me with GW 2, which other new MMO's never had, was production quality, the movements your characters have and the characters around you, they have a much more free flow if that makes sence, WoW has that very nice and smooth movement system, Warhammer for example didn't, it was very rigid, so that's one of the major reasons why I think GW 2 will be ace.

PSS: This is a good video which shows what I mean above about movements, and other things. 10 reasons to be interested in GW 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBC_ig73aMs
