What spec are you going for? That monitor is a bog standard 1080p 60hz monitor so will be fine for general use and gaming. It is quite expensive for what it is though.

It's a TN panel so the colours aren't going to be out of this world and the viewing angles will probably be quite poor unless you're sat right in front (not great if you're planning to double it up as a multimedia pc, etc). I personally would be going for a Dell u2312hm for that sort of money. IPS panel meaning superior colours and viewing angles, has excellent reviews even as a gaming monitor and will be much more satisfying to use on a day-to-day basis.

Ah sorry, I thought you would only be using it for the PC.

Yes the Acer you posted should be nice :)

What graphics card did you settle on in the end? I know that a lot of rigs won't benefit from a 120hz monitor as they aren't capable of outputting 120 fps on ultra settings on modern games (mine won't on BF4 or Tomb Raider - only especially demanding games I have at the moment).
I quite like the look of that LG (here) It's an IPS so will have decent colours, the response time is ok (I doubt that anybody in the real world would notice the difference between 5ms and 2ms),it doesn't have speakers so you won't be paying for shoddy speakers (you will obviously have to get a headset or a separate set of speakers).

Off topic but it always amuses me how they always take pictures of IPS monitors with really vibrant colours on them when the majority of people looking at buying IPS monitors won't be able to see how good the picture is..

Thanks bigben for feedback.

I went with the 3GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 780 (2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready)

I think I am now leaning towards IPS after thinking about settling with TN. If it is a toss between a better/crisper picture quality when the response time is minimal then I'm now thinking about IPS.

I heard and read that the Dell Ultrasharp is very good. Here:

But, it has no HDMI output, although I can get a connector...

120hz is now out of the question btw.

This LG does look appealing, also has HDMI:

I think I would go for the LG. The fact that the Dell doesn't have HDMI forcing you to use DVI is naff. The problems with DVI is that it isn't HDCP compliant (which basically means that programmes like iTunes won't let you watch HD videos on the monitor it's connected to).

For completeness I feel the urge to mention that you can get HDCP compliant DVI connections.

Your point is still valid though in the sense that HDMI connections are definitely HDCP compliant whereas only 'some' DVI connections are.

Ah my bad, I didn't realise that, I knew that the DVI cables that came with my (HDCP) monitors weren't HDCP so just assumed.
For me DVI is pretty redundant now that you get HDMI that can carry 120hz .

edit:

Thanks BB, I'm just literally popping to my local PC World to have a look at the LG up close and personal just to see what it is like.

Incidentally, what do you think of this one?:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MX239H-Wide...F8&qid=1389321485&sr=1-4&keywords=ips+monitor

It is £206 (on Amazon), but with speakers.

Better, worse or same as the LG ?

That Asus monitor looks nice, I don't really know how it would perform though, I would still get external speakers or a headset as built in speakers are usually awful.

I'm starting to look at 27" monitors so this thread has been quite helpful. Ideally I'm looking for a Samsung as both of my TVs and current monitor have been excellent, failing that I'm thinking of looking at an ASUS.
