mSata m.2 PLUS SSHD?

Hi I have bought the Optimus V with a 1Tb Seagate SSHD. I've also seen a Kingston 60gb mSata SSDNow drive available for a good price. If I were to wipe windows 8.1 off the SSHD and reinstall it and a few select programs (photoshop, lightroom, solidworks and maybe a game) on the SSD drive would the SSHD work nicely with it? Would I notice much improvement in performance?

Cheers,

Max

It would work fine but you won't get many (if any benefits) since you have the OS on the SSD. I wouldn't go with a 60gb SSD, I would be surprise you are able to fit the OS, a few programmes and a game. Considering how expensive SSDs are and the difference in price between 60gb/80gb to 120gb I would go with at least a 120gb SSD

60Gb for the OS drive would be pushing it frankly, the OS is going to take most of that on it's own after installing updates and if you have hibernation set etc (ie normal windows install), that's before installing stuff like solidworks which in itself is huge, I don't think you'd be able to get enough on there myself. 120Gb would be the minimum I'd suggest.

The SSHD has a small SSD that acts as a cache for most used smaller files. If you have an SSD as the OS drive, it makes the SSD cache redundant on the SSHD and then the drive is running at the slower 5400RPM, so it will essentially be slower than a standard 7200RPM drive. A caviar black would outperform it.
