New PC Gamer - Mainly for FS2020 & COD MW

Hi all,

Fairly new to the side of gaming PC's, with the new release of FS2020 I was wondering would this spec be high quality for the game and allow extra graphics in-game etc? In addition, is there anywhere I could strip back on the spec to save a bit of money or items that are not required - this is around the max of my budget.

Open to opinions, thanks in advance.

Is there a need for 32gb of ram? Consensus seems to be that 16gb is more than enough for gaming, if budget allows see about increasing the mhz a bit. Sure the experts will be along soon. What's your budget and do you need any other bits?

Theres a few bits where you can look to change to get the most out of your money and the PC.

What monitor will you be using with the PC, model number or resolution and refresh rate?
Budget, what's your ideal spend and the max?

This is what I have got from the website of FS2020, just been precautionary and copied most of the spec. The budget max is around £2,500 tbh but if I can reduce it that will help as I haven't factored in any games or accessories. I remember from FSX I used a standard Asus laptop about 6/7 years ago and it worked but the performance was not the best, ideally trying to avoid that.

No special monitor at the minute as this is new to me but I have HP 24w 24 inch LED Monitor (1920 x 1080 Pixel Full HD (FHD) 5ms 60hz Refresh Rate HDMI...I'm guessing that these may need to be upgraded to? Like I mentioned earlier I'm not the most tech-savvy when it comes to this sort of thing lol

Honestly didn't realise that FS2020 needed that much grunt to work, best scratch that off my list of titles that I wanted to play 😭😭
It looks like it's going to be a hell of a game though! The pc that I am looking to buy is going to be primarily for this game. Not too sure whether to wait until release and see other set-ups and then look for one of those but I haven't got that much patience haha

Please wait for the experts but mains things I see are:
Your going to want to change the platform (CPU&Motherboard) AMD over Intel currently and for the next couple of years. Intel have to many flaws and their latest chips run too hot to get full performance out of them

Ram - you will want a higher speed 2400 is slow by today's standards. (2x8)16GB@3200 is ideal for most uses. Experts will chip in with 32 over 16 but

GPU - should match your monitor. The one you linked is 24" 1080p@60Hz. This is old tech. Ideally 27" 1440@144Hz is where it's at right now unless you wanted ultrawide
The RTx2080(s) is extreme top end for 27" 1440

Storage: most recommendations are an M2 drive and a storage drive.
500GB minimum for OS and 1 game and a 1or 2 TB for other storage
Personally I'd go for 2x M2 if the motherboard has that possible

PSU: RMx the modular one are better. And the 750 covers for future upgrades

Processor cooling: this will depend on the chip that is picked, I'll not comment on this and leave it to the experts

Anti virus: select non. Widows defender is currently what you should want to use

In the meantime, have a read of this:

Thank you, everyone, for your comments and suggestions. They are appreciated! Will have a read of the article and do some further research to get me up to speed with this new tech.

This is far better than your original system. I'm a HUGE flight sim fan. I'm getting myself ready for FS2020 too :)

I would be aiming for a 1440p monitor.

Having said all this. It may be worthwhile holding off till the game is out as there are new GPUs coming out in approx Q3. It depends when the game launches. You could get a more powerful system for the same money, or a similarly powerful system for less money.

Dude, you need to order an AMD cpu on THIS build, not next time. Cancel it. Your impatience might save you a few days of getting an Intel machine earlier but it will cost you using a naff and inferior pc for years. Ludicrous choice. Cancel it, post your budget, you'll get a suggested build today and you can reorder it today. You'd have a far better AMD pc in two weeks.
Would you be able to recommend an AMD build with a budget of £2,000. I am looking to play games such as COD and FS2020 when it comes out. Was thinking Intel myself but as you mentioned and from what I have heard, AMD may be a better route. Just to clarify too, I'm a beginner at PC gaming, understand the main components for normal everyday but no idea for gaming. Thanks in advance

I don't know a great deal about builds but I will need to be able to run FS2020 as well to stay current (cheers corona).

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Recommended Requirements
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or better
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • VIDEO CARD: Radeon RX 590 or GeForce GTX 970
  • PIXEL SHADER: 5.1
  • VERTEX SHADER: 5.1
  • FREE DISK SPACE: 150 GB
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 4096 MB
Found this on a website and comparing it to what MRDOMO118 found, you cannot take too much away from either as clearly the recommended specs are so hugely different.

I have just seen that they released ideal and recommended as different specs. Should have kept my mouth shut! I will crawl back into my hole now.

It's all guesswork at the moment anyway. The recommended just covers M$ really. My guess is that 32GB won't even be remotely required. We will just need to wait and see though :)
