New PC - graphics artifacts

Morning - I've sent this to tech support as well, but will try my luck here as well:

I received the above order this morning - everything worked out of the box, although I did have to enter the BIOS briefly on first start to save it - though without making or saving changes. The fact the PC had to force me to do something like this makes me wonder if it is related to the issue I'm now having.

On loading Windows, the screen displays numerous purple 'dashes' all over the display, however mostly on dark backgrounds (and when booting as well). If I screen shot these they do not show, leading me to believe it may be a monitor issue. However, device manager shows the installed graphics card (GeForce RTX 2080 Ti) as having a fault; code 43.

I have uninstalled and re-installed drivers for both card and monitor and am still having the issue

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i9 Eight Core Processor i9-9900K (3.6GHz) 16MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO: ATX, LGA1151, USB 3.1, SATA 6GBs - RGB Ready
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2400MHz (4 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
11GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2080 Ti - HDMI, 3x DP GeForce - RTX VR Ready!
1st Storage Drive
2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 64MB CACHE
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB INTEL® 760p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (upto 3230MB/sR | 1625MB/sW)

I'm hoping I've missed something obvious rather than there being a hardware fault.

Hi, that is a problem with your graphics card for sure and there is no simple solution, you need to send the card back, I had the same problem with my ASUS Dual 2080 ti after only a few hours of play. PCS are aware of the issue on some of the cards and they will RMA meaning they will send you a replacement card and do a swap at your doorstep with a DPD driver and you then fit it yourself, if you are not confident of doing this then the only alternative is to send the system back and they will do it for you but to be honest it is a simple procedure to swap out the graphics card by yourself, it will not effect your warranty and PCS encourage you to do it yourself as it is an easier process all round.
The process time of the swap can be as small as a couple of days but this largely depends on their stock of the card you have specified.

I would call them on Monday morning first thing and speak with a customer service rep, they are very helpful, the cut off time for sending out replacement parts is 3pm so if they have the card in stock you could have it by Tuesday as they send out using DPD next day service. I had to do this 3 times as I also had a problem with my secondary HDD, it is a pain I know but they will sort it out as soon as possible for you. Let us know how you get on, my replacement card has been fine since 29th November and had many hours of use.

I would call them today, they're open til 4

Absolutely Spyder, I was going to suggest the same thing but they would not send out replacement parts on a Saturday so Tuesday would still be the earliest possible time to receive a replacement.

Spoke on the phone to two very helpful agents, first one gave me a couple of additional suggestions to run through just in case (unfortunately neither worked) and the second has sorted out the RMA so hopefully it'll be resolved soon.

Bit frustrating, but these things happen and I can't fault the after-sales service at least!

Did they have the card in stock? If you search this issue on the 2080ti particularly the founders edition you will find a fair few issues similar to what you have but more commonly 'space invader' artifacts, check out Gamers Nexus on you tube who has done a lot of testing on the cards. I hope you have it sorted quickly as the card is excellent when you get a working one, the issues seem to stem around the type of memory used apparently and Nvidia and OEM's have switched to Samsung memory now, I don't know for sure though, just what I've read.
PCS are superb at sorting issues out though and even though I had to RMA 3 times I would not hesitate to use them again, imagine these issues with something you built yourself, Nightmare!!

I presume so!

I'd found out about the issues when googling the problem, code 43 in particular seems particularly common. Surprising that nothing showed in their own quality control/testing but as you say, I suspect its an unfortunate one off, and certainly isn't enough to put me off using PCS again.

NVIDIA Adds Samsung VRAM - Not Why You ThinkJust to immediately address some issues with online posts: Correlation is not equal to causation, of course, and that stands strongly here. NVIDIA has added Samsung to its list of memory suppliers for RTX cards, with likely follow-on support for SK Hynix at some point. Some posts have jumped to the conclusion that this is a “switchover” from Micron to Samsung pursuant to some kind of presumed widespread defect issue on Micron memory. The reality is that, despite some cards artifacting (as we’ve proven), this is a normal move to increase supply availability of memory for the RTX cards. It also forces bidding between two suppliers, which is beneficial to the manufacturer. This is typical.

There could still be bad memory batches from Micron, but this isn’t an indicator of that. It’s just another supplier in the chain, similar to how thermal paste or thermal pad suppliers silently change all the time.

Not sure if GN had anything more recent to say about the inclusion of Samsung memory
