Everything has been going great with new pc I got days ago but now disaster has struck. As i said on another forum the other day about crysis i did install it.played for half an hour or so when pc started to get hotter & hotter, being where i am up here in scotland had this idea to put it outside where its very cold, wasnt hard to do as situated right next to outside wall at back of house.just a matter of boring a hole through,no problem as i am an electrician.anyway contrary too solving the problem 2 hours later the house went into darkness due to the rcd tripping out.I sorted that then brought the pc back in & hooked it up but sparks flew from it & tripped the rcd again, mind you the pc was pretty wet, thing is it cost £1500,I assume its still under warranty.

Wet? I dont understand.. Did you put it outside in the rain or something?
Oh yes it always rains up here, but it was under the overhang of the roof & between 2 bins so i thought it would be pretty well sheltered.

Rain will often get buffeted by wind and travel horizontally, given that a PSU is usually at the back of a PC, easy for rain to go in through the vent and poof..

Um, I wouldn't be surprised if leaving it outside in the rain voids the warranty ........

Note: if your PC ever gets wet for whatever reason, let it dry out completely before even connecting it to a power source (same applies to anything electrical).

You're an electrician and you thought it would be fine to leave a high spec expensive computer sat outside...in the rain? What kind of electrician are you exactly and how are you still alive? :S If this is actually genuine I can't believe someone would be so daft as to hook their PC up outside, even if it wasn't raining. If it was getting too hot, make sure the case isn't boxed in so its got plenty of airflow and if needs be, install another or more efficient fan! This is complete madness if its genuine.

Ok, the warranty states:

Exclusions
This warranty does not cover:-
  • Any damage caused by accident, abuse, misapplication. Misuse, and/or problems with electrical power.
  • Any damage caused by usage that is not in accordance with product instructions.
......

So I'm pretty much convinced the warranty will not cover it getting rained on.

That warranty information can be found on page 23-24 of your welcome booklet.

Actually, I hadn't noticed you'd written that you were an electrician and I was just trying to be helpful
Sorry rakk just feeling a bit pissed off now realising what ive done, but after putting the sound card through my laminator(bit of a bother peeling it off)then giving the mobo & the gpu a whirl in the microwave oven,I think im all set to go.

Do not put them in a microwave or an oven! they will not survive!

They will phoenix, if they are wrapped in magnetronic repellent bags, these bags protect the contents but the contents still receive enough heat to do the job.

Too true, besides if you're an electrician why did you immediately plug it back in when wet?

I must congratulate you on this expert trollage though, but even before you said about the oven and microwave, there was something that immediately made no sense - drilling a hole to the outside. Biggest cable i can think of is monitor DVI or power lead, id love to know how u drill a 5cm hole through a house xD

Well this part is true, ive bored 6inch (150mm)holes through double brick walls for fans , tumble driers & boilers so 5cm wouldnt be hard.Anyway I really didnt think anyone would have believed me i thought you must have heard about the famous comer wind up on av forums about water cooling, just google" kramer water cooling",the thread goes on for about 2 years but its a scream.(I dont believe it they are still posting to comers thread after 8years)
