I have just taken delivery of a new PC from PC Specialist. I always used to build my own computers- in that way I would get the parts that I required and could make compromises as I went along to keep the price down to a sensible level. Not all of us can afford the ultimate in PC's.
I had looked at a couple of company's before ordering but PCS had the right components at the right price and a good reputation to back it up. In fact, at the price, it was not worth building my own again. Still a couple of compromises to what I really want such as onboard graphics and no separate card but I can upgrade at a later date if the onboard is not suitable for the use I am going to put it to.
So computer turned up on Thursday and set it all up and plug it in and Nothing. Fans were working and that was all. So Friday quick call to technical and a few things to try out but no joy. Called technical again and it was agreed that the PC had to be returned. RMA no. sorted but before I packed it up I decided to check out one of the things technical had mentioned that could have occured and it was. The CPU was not fully located and this was probably done in transit due to the weight of the upgraded cooler I had bought. Relocate the CPU- plug in and I was on my way. Even I know that this is an unusual problem to have but thanks to the guidance of technical- I was able to locate and correct the fault with ease.
So my advice to any of you that do have a computer problem-Contact Technical. Try to give them as much info as possible as to the fault and you will find them helpfull. They understand the problems that can arise- whether they be hardware faults or user initiated.
The person at the other end of the phone was very helpfull- talked in a language I could understand, talked me through the few queries I did have and even though this was an unusual fault- did tell me it was a "Possible" problem that I could correct. He has the experience that I currently do not have.
