RAM Speed discrepencies

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted some piece of mind regarding my RAM speed :)

So my specs are:

Processor (CPU) AMD Ryzen 5 1600X Six Core CPU (3.6GHz-4.0GHz/19MB CACHE/AM4)
Motherboard ASUS® STRIX B350-F GAMING (DDR4, USB 3.0, 6Gb/s)
Memory (RAM) 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000MHz (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card 6GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1060 - DVI, HDMI, 3 x DP - GeForce GTX VR Ready!

So on CPU-Z it says my RAM is running at 1463.2MHZ and in my BIOS it says my RAM is running at 2933MHZ (If I remember correctly)

Whereas Ryzen Master says 667 :/

So two points: Should I just ignore Ryzen master? And is it normal that my CPU-Z doesn't say 1500 and my BIOS doesn't say 3000

Kind regards,

The BIOS is normal, as Ryzen seems to have the RAM at 2933MHz. I don't know wh exactlyy, google probably has the answers, but it's just what 3000MHz RAM seems to run at with Ryzen CPUs and motherboards. The specs on the Asus site say:

AMD Ryzen™ Processors
4 x DIMM, Max. 64GB, DDR4 3200(O.C.)/2933(O.C.)/2666/2400/2133 MHz ECC and non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory *

CPU-Z gives the RAM frequency as half of what you think of it as (because DDR - double data rate) - as it seems you're aware, but just saying.

I've no idea why Ryzen Master is saying 667.

But it sounds like the RAM is at the speed it's meant to be.

Ah cool cool, thank you! If I was to OC with Ryzen Master, I'd have to set it manually I guess to 1463?

?

I've no idea about Ryzen Master or how it works.

The RAM is already "OCed" to 2933MHz through the (AMD equivalent of) an XMP profile. If you wanted to OC the CPU I'd assume you'd do it via the BIOS. Especially if it seems to be reporting random things about your RAM speed?

I'm speaking from a position of ignorance here, maybe one of the (very few) forum users with experience of Ryzen overclocking will chip in - but if the BIOS is showing your RAM frequency correctly and Ryzen Master appears to be giving numbers you don't understand, you're probably best going via the BIOS.
