550w is not enough imo. 650w at the least and I dont know about PC specialists own aio but I would go with corsair/ cooletmaster

To advise you appropriately, we need to know some more information:

- Maximum Budget? To know what room there is to change things
- What else will it be used for? Streaming? Editing etc
Its mainly to be used for games such as elder scrolls online and the division 2 and cyberpunk. I have a 9 year old little war marchine that gets me through (i wont even attempt to play games such as assasins creed odyssey but i'm looking for a rig that will last years and can handle anything really just a good solid rig :)

MOST VALUED CONTRIBUTOR
I don't think you're getting the best possible value out of that setup. You will, inevitably, get better value and performance out of an AMD machine. I also think your storage, which really very fast, isn't really optimal value. A lightning fast M.2 SSD and a normal hard drive would definitely give better value for money.

You have a few options. In terms of processors, you'd probably be fine with the 5600X and the standard AMD cooler, but you might prefer to go for the 5900X and an AIO water cooler. (I don't think the 5800X is good value.) The H100i is out of stock at the moment, but it's probably worth substituting that back in when you can. Finally, the other changes free up enough budget that the 3070 graphics card is a real option, though the 3060Ti is definitely a good match with that monitor. I've also upped the memory because you have the budget for it and, really, why not at this point, but 16GB is probably enough if you aren't doing lots of creative stuff.

The spec above is almost spot-on but it needs to be noted that if you go for the 5900X, you'd also need the ROG Strix X570 motherboard and the H115i RGB Platinum/H115i RGB XT Pro cooler to avoid thermal throttling. It would also require a change of case due to the larger radiator on the cooler.

Silver Level Poster
5900x is a bit OTT for a Gaming PC only (Per Gamers Nexus) but depends if you have other uses. Otherwise save money (God forbid lol!) with 5600x for which you (probably) also only need stock cooler, as SCK451 pointed out

If you did stick to it then H100i cooler would also be ok as I did a fair amount of research for my 3900x and I believe the Thermals are almost identical

Thankyou Gentlemen, i am looking to squeeze out as much as possible and i've always lived by if it's quite a hefty investment that costs a fair bit of money for the future 5-10 years in this case possibly, it's always best to be happy and not left wanting or wishing so the best value and efficiency is important just incase i do decide to stream, edit and so on.
Would an overclocked 5900x be better? just so its already done with as opposed to being an option for the future? and is AMD really that much better than intel in the processor?
Also i've always been told that it's better to use smaller storage drive for the OS and a larger storage drive for games, steam and so on but i've read conflicting suggestions as to whats best so if you could enlighten me that would be great.

AMD are superior in ever sense now, have a read of this thread for more info...

I wouldn't recommend overclocking a 5900X, AMD processors come with a frequency boost which acts as in-built overclocking. If you attempt to clock further, it can actually impair performance.

I'd suggest a 500GB M.2 drive for the OS and programs. If you have money for a second 1TB M.2, that's a great way of having some fast storage.

Thats the updated version, which includes the spec provided by @sck451 and the input from yourself @AgentCooper it's increased the price to £2,800 but i imagine thats the best spec i'd get for the money.
Thankyou so much for your help and insight, i've just drank about three cups of damn fine coffee in half an hour with excitement :)

It's a peach! You could maaaaybe up the PSU to 850w for a bit of future proofing, just in case the next generation of graphics cards turn out to be as hungry as this new batch. But that's a minor point, the build is as sound as a pound :D

You can save yourself a few quid and drop the DVI cable....the 3060Ti doesn't come with a DVI port. You want to connect via DisplayPort anyway as it's the better connection for gaming. DVI is being phased out as DP has taken it's place, much like HDMI replaced Scart years ago
Good spot, @Nursemorph. Your attention to detail always impresses me 👍👍👍

Thank you! would it be better to add a DP to HDMI cable?

Also i've upgraded the PSU to 850w, hardly noticed the difference in price raise lol

At this point in time the price isn't even a care, which it probably should be and i'd have to stop somewhere but it's bug isn't it (and i can't stop, it's too dangerous, i'd have to slow down first) spaceballs reference and is quite impossible due to the amount of caffeine pumping through me :)
