Storing games on optical disc vs external drive when not used

Hi,

I am just wondering if I should keep the games that I bought from GOG.COM on my main drive, or move them to either an external SSD/HDD or backup them up to blank DVD or Blu-ray?

I have quite a lot of blank optical media - CD-R, DVD+R and BD-R.

When I download the game from GOG.COM, these are the offline backup installers.

I download, install, play the game and then uninstall it.

Because I am running out of space on my 3TB external HDD due to using it to store full backup images of my PC.

I will start using my currently blank 1TB Toshiba HDD for storing these backup images too.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, please.

Thank you.

Why do you want to back them up rather than download the ISO as and when you need it? That’s the whole point of an online game store?

I prefer not having to download the same game file(s) again, that's all.

This is a bit different to other online game stores, e.g. Origin, Steam, etc because the games on these platforms have to use the respective client to run.

Just seems a massive waste of storage space.

nevertheless, the only removable media that’s worth it is NAS and USB imho. USB will be too restrictive, NAS would make a lot more sense.
