That gulf...

I really don't understand why Americans, and others, are making such a huge fuss about renaming the Gulf Of Mexico America? Who cares? What they're not seeing is that this is a distraction, like a magic trick, to direct people's attention away from what really matters.

Social media is awash with 'proud' Americans declaring this a blow for freedom. What planet are they living on? I used to love going to work and visit in the USA, but I'll not be going again. They're all mad!

Probably because it's another example of the "We are America therefore we can do whatever we like" mindset. And because it should still be the Gulf of Mexico as it always has been....but the internet will no longer call it that as all the major internet companies such as Google etc are American and will cave in to the orange one. Personally, if the French tried to rename it the French Channel, I'd be up in arms as it has always been the English Channel and they have no business renaming it....of course, in practicality, it means nothing as it's just a name but it's the principle of the thing.

I think in this case, a lot of the uproar is because it's the orange one pushing the limits of what he can do such as, effectively, threatening Greenland with a "Let us buy you or we will invade" implication. He is trying to alienate the entirety of the planet so those in that part are pushing back...because not saying anything invites him to do more.
I completely agree with this.

But I completely understand where @ubuysa is coming from, it is all tactical to whitewash the really serious tragedies that are being undertaken currently, pretty much on a daily basis. Guantanamo is now the first of the US Auschwitz modelled holiday camps. They've just had another flight go down because the FAA has been completely dismantled. Today, they raise 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico, US car makers have very knowledgably stated that this will destroy US car manufacturing which was already on it's knees anyway, and that's a HUGE part of US economy.

He is systematically dismantling the US piece by piece. Why? He's doing the bidding of his master in the East, and he's doing it very effectively.

Piss poor husband, piss poor father, piss poor businessman, piss poor human being, great snivelling little servant.

We're doing it as well now! We shouldn't even be talking about it. It's an irrelevance, a distraction, an utterly insignificant, unnecessary, and pointless boondoggle. That's why he's done it. It pacifies the masses without a) costing anything or b) actually changing anything.

It was scary that 77 million Americans thought that Trump was a suitable person to be president, but to watch them on social media proclaiming freedom, and praising Trump for standing up for America, just because he's unilaterally renamed a body of water in a way that nobody else will recognise, makes it clear that those 77 million Americans are living in a fool's paradise with zero concept of what really matters in their country, or what's going on elsewhere in the world.

Those 77 million are what's really worrying about America. We have known that Trump is a misogynistic, thin-skinned, closet Nazi, for many years but the idea that 77 million Americans support his actions and beliefs is truly scary. When they wake up and fine it's not 1950 anymore they're going to be well miffed.
