Upgrade to 4090

Hello all,

Can't believe I'm coming up to nearly a year now of owning my machine - time really does fly!

Anyway, thought I'd pick your collective brains. These new 4090's - especially the Gigabyte model - comes with a support bracket whereby you need to remove 2 motherboard screws to put in a couple of stand offs / risers whatever you call them.

Does this affect warranty? Ordinarily, you wouldn't be taking screws out of your motherboard you see.

Thanks.

Rich.

Hi,

The warranty on your computer may be affected if you remove screws from the motherboard. Many manufacturers have specific terms in their warranties that prohibit the modification or alteration of the hardware in any way, and removing screws from the motherboard would likely fall under this category. Before making any changes to your computer, it is best to check the warranty terms and conditions to ensure that you will not void the warranty by doing so.

With PCS this isn't the case, they have an open chassis policy where you can do most upgrades or modifications you like without affecting warranty with the understanding you don't damage anything in the meantime or that you don't swap the following components

7.8Unlike with most computer companies, we allow you to open your case and install your own components without voiding your warranty on the following conditions:

  • If the actions of the person installing the components cause damage to the computer, your warranty will be void;
  • If you install components that are not purchased from us and they cause problems with your computer, your warranty will be void;
  • If you install components that are not purchased from us we will in no way support you in installing them or with any problems you have relating to the components you have installed.
  • We will support you in installing components purchased from us providing you have purchased them through the upgrade service available on your online account.

7.9We reserve the right to suspend the warranty or refuse service if your Case, Motherboard, CPU or BIOS have been replaced without authorisation.
Any tampering, repair or modification by unauthorised personnel voids the warranty.

These are just the standard case brackets for PCIe cards, it's a standard part of PC building, and won't affect any warranty.
