Upgrading RAM on an Optimus IV

I have an Optimus IV with 16GB of Kingston Hyper-X Genesis 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 RAM (2 x 8GB). I need to add another 8GB of the same to take the laptop to its maximum 24GB (using the third memory slot behind the keyboard).

I spoke to PCS yesterday who said that they no longer sell the Genesis and the only option was to ditch the Hyper-X Genesis and change ALL of my RAM modules (quoting a huge sum in the process, way in excess of other quotes for doing the same). I am not keen to spend £XXXs when what I have already is superb and just needs adding to.

I then spoke to two technicians directly at Kingston who, because they had never heard of a Clevo W370ET and it did not show up on their company's database, said I couldn't possibly have the Hyper-X Genesis RAM installed so they could not help (despite my giving them the Kingston part numbers, serial numbers etc.). They did, however, confirm that the Genesis is no longer made but were not prepared to state whether they had anything compatible.

I have looked online (Ebay, Amazon, memory shops etc.) and no-one seems to have any old stock of 8GB modules (though there are some 4GB modules still available).

So I have two questions:

1. Does anyone know where I might get hold of an 8GB Hyper-X Genesis module?

2. Failing that, does anyone know if the Hyper-X Genesis is compatible with any other brand/model of RAM one can purchase as an 8GB module (preferably Kingston), so that I can add to what I have already but without producing any of the problems associated with mixing and matching RAM modules? Or am I on a hiding to nothing and looking at a large bill for replacing the whole lot?!

Thank you all!

I can't help source your 8GB RAM module but I'm wondering what you're using the laptop for to be running out of 16GB of RAM?

I am running a number of virtual PCs working together at the same time and I now have to add two more to the batch hence why I need the additional RAM.

I personally have 8gb of Genesis 1600mhz and a further 16gb of the new Impact 1600mhz and they run fine together, no compatibility issues at all.
