Hi there,

Not got a real budget as such, I was looking at the alienware m17x r3 or the m18x. All I want to ensure is the best spec for the cash, max £2500 ex vat.

I am looking for a desktop replacement and a replacement for my m11x that is will still play the games in 2yrs time. I did like the SLI feature of the sager n7282 (I think it was called).

Cheers

Well I wouldn't advise alienware as you're paying a good few £100 premium for the name, if there isn't a budget as such I could advise the below spec for you. I've changed to the 1600MHz RAM for a small speed increase, unless you want the 300GB SSD i've dropped it to a 160GB and kept the 750GB fr storage, the Killer Wireless Card doesnt actually perform that far off the card listed in the below spec (again unless you want it specifically). You dont need the wireless keyboard and mouse set as one comes with the laptop stand you've selected, also chucked in a surge protector as i presume it's going to be plugged in a lot.

Arr ok and I would agree with you on the aloe ware front, however I would be running some virtual machines hence the 16GB, do they offer these in the 1600MHz??

I will drop the stand as I have seen in another post the zachman laptop cooler which makes better sense.

Is the killer card not very good, I have seen a number of people on notebookreviews.com talk about them?

So you think the 2GB GTX 485M is better than an SLI configuration, not that PCS offer this at the moment.

Thanks for you advise very much appericated?

Ah that's fine then, if you need the extra RAM just pop the 16GB option back in. Oh 'Zalman'? I own one of these and it is very good I can vouch for that. Well it's only a extra £10 so I suppose there's not loads to lose on it, I just find them to be overrated, the LAN cards are good, but the wireless ones? Hmm they haven't convinced me yet. It depends on what 2 cards were in SLI?
