Windows restore has lost a graphics card

So I've had some trouble with a hard drive and after taking it to my PC guy he loaned me a windows disc to do a repair on it hoping it'll sort the start up issues I'd been having.

Sadly it didn't and I had to do a full restore, deleting drivers and all files and reinstalling windows. Since then I've managed to install some drivers while leaving out the BIOS (as told to by the PC guy) and so far its running as smooth as it ever has done. But I've hit a wall in that my Device manager finds 2 Radeon HD 6950's while I plug the TV into the 2nd GPU it doesn't show up, this worked before the restore. I swapped the lead and put the TV lead in the 1st GPU and my monitor into the 2nd but my monitor wasn't getting recognised either.

I've checked drivers and they say it's all up to date so is this a problem with the card or should I install the BIOS, if so, can someone give me a simple way to do this.

Thanks in advance. :shaun:

First thing I would try is a clean install of the graphics driver,to do this,
Click on Start
Open the Control Panel
Select Programs and Features
Select AMD (ATI) Catalyst Install Manager
Click on Change
Click on Next when prompted for the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard forAMD Catalyst Install Manager,
Select Express Uninstall All Software
Follow the on-screen directions and restart the system when finished
To verify that the graphics driver has been uninstalled, return to the Uninstall or Change a Program list and ensure that there is no AMD specific software listed
If AMD specific software is still listed, remove any remaining AMDsoftware components using the above process and restart the system when complete.
Download latest driver from here.

If this doesn't help, check the crossfire bridge connections and the GPU is seated correctly.
Failing that,it could be a faulty GPU opr PCI slot,to test this try one card at a time in each slot.

I've done the reinstall and tried to add an external screen through control panel but nothing comes up on the list except the 1st monitor. I've now opened the side of my case and the fans are working fine which means its getting power.
Theres no device connection noise which happened when I turned the TV on before. I think I'm missing something still

I've just looked under device manager and it shows 2 graphics cards under Display Adaptors but I have 3 'unknown devices' that dont have drivers. I've no clue what these are.

FIXED! I moved the TV DVI lead into the 1st GPU and named it 2nd monitor. seems to be fine. No idea why it wouldn't work when plugged directly into the 2nd graphics card... hope that it doesnt cause problems 2 monitors into 1 graphics card displaying different things

It won't cause any problems,I believe that's how they're supposed to be connected with crossfire enabled.
I run 2 monitors on my 5870 card and connect to the TV in another room now and again, making 3 displays from the one card,I believe the 6950 can support up to 4 displays.
Far as I know, with crossfire enabled all the ports on your additional cards are disabled and only the ports on your first card function,so thinking about it I'm not sure how you had it working before with a monitor in each card, unless crossfire was disabled.
