I've put together an Intel and an AMD system. My friend insists that AMD is the way to go because of the cost but I'm sure about the overall performance and compatibility with the GTX 970 . With the AMD I could upgrade some of the components to fit the budget.
I have an £1800 budget for the machine as I need to get a number of other peripherals. I've always needed laptops before this system.
Uses:
Gaming - FPS on highest quality.
Movies - I have a PS3 that I use to play Blu-Ray, would the PC be better. TV is 3D 1080p.
Work - Certainly running one remotely accessible virtual machine most of the time. Sometimes two with internal networking. Normal office and internet stuff.
I'd like this system to be decently futureproof (upto 4 or 5 years), which is why I've opted for the powerful processor. The Green drive is to be my second backup. The 750W power supply would let me add another graphics card although I'm not sure if that will be necessary.
