Hi everyone!
I have had my PC a few weeks now and have been loving it, Last night a new update came through on the AMD app which I tried to install but failed, I should have got a photo can't remember why. However this reset all of my GPU settings.. when I went to try and install again the update was no longer there.. that is the only weird issue I have had except some radiator noise which PC Specialist have said should be fine, which isn't constant.

Anyway today I jumped on cod, Noticed a high FPS drop on only one map.. other maps I am getting nearly 500ps, Anyway played cod for 2 hours.. I closed COD click google chrome started typing everything crashed.. I restarted and kept getting black screen then the blue screen ( see the images )

Restarted again nothing black screen, All fans/lights are on/ motherboard does its normal noises and colours to start up.

I don't want to really mess with anything that may void the warranty.. can anyone help plz? I did call PCS but realised they are closed. I had planned a day of gaming on my day off lol, Unlucky me.

I can't upload the image, However it says "Recovery - advanced repair or restart"

After clicking restart its still black screen so I have turned the PC off now.

*Update
No more black screen and everything is back on.. I just left it the PC off for about an hour.. Any Ideas why its sorted its self out?

I have ran the command prompt scannow - Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

I ran DISM.eve /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Then sfc /scannow and it says all corrupted files have been repaired.
Fingers crossed then.
Any clues as to what maybe happened? Or shall i provide the CBS log?

Ok a couple of things I would tryafter checking for windows updates, both standard and optional:

  1. Remove and reseat the GPU, and make sure all its power leads are firmly connected at both ends
  2. Download the latest GPU driver for your GPU from AMD
  3. Download and install DDU from Here https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/Download-Display-Driver-Uninstaller-DDU-18076
  4. Run DDU
  5. Install the new Drivers in while in safe mode

The symptoms could be either a bad connection on the primary SSD, may be worth uninstalling it and making sure it's properly installed, although this may require uninstalling the GPU to reach it.

The other thing is possibly the GPU, as Chrome uses hardware acceleration (TLDR, don't use chrome, it's god awful these days). Worth following @Martinr36 advice above also.

Hi Martin, Thank you.

I think there may have been a windows update which I haven't done yet, Could that be causing the issue by not downloading?
I will also download the latest drivers from AMD as recommended thank you, Do you always install new drivers while in Safe mode?

@SpyderTracks
Hi Spyder, Thank you! Yeah never happened before just randomly on Chrome. Im hoping for now everything stays all ok if it happens again I may have to try all of the above. Im not really the most handy person so removing a GPU/SSD is not something I am familiar with or comfortable with, The last time I had a PC in 2016 I removed the RAM once and that was it. I just wouldn't want to make anything worse basically.

Could it be anything to do with the corrupted files that have been repaired now? Or most likely to come back.

Thanks Both.

Do be aware, while AMD drivers have come a HUGE way since the dreaded 5000 series, they are still not as polished as Nvidia drivers.

Best advice is don't install the Adrenaline package, ONLY install the actual drivers. Adrenaline is the source of a lot of GPU crashes and driver crashes.

Similarly, never use AMD or Intel driver updaters, they tend to cause issues.

Perfect Spyder, So basically only ever install the updates for the driver from the AMD Adrenaline location but not from the Adrenaline app? I just use that for Fan speed adjustment anyway.

Yeah everything has been amazing before trying that failed update on the Adrenaline app last night which failed and then disappeared, So I think it may be something to do with that possibly?

So yeah, don't install Adrenaline. The drivers are packaged with Adrenaline, the guide above shows you how to extract the driver package and only install that.

You don't need the Adrenaline control panel, all settings can be applied from within the game.

Great Spyder thank you, The Adrenaline app came pre-installed I do only use that for the Fan speed adjustment for the GPU - Won't do any further updates via this and will follow the video, Sorry I probably sound stupid lol or missing something.

I do appreciate all the help offered for now I won't mess with anything unless the same issue occurs as I just want to Game stress free!
Again I appreciate your time thank you.

Shouldn't need the AMD Adrenaline app for the fan control...all that should be run from Corsair iCUE 5.
Hi Tony, The only fans I can control from the ICUE is the radiator fans/pump, the exhaust fan/s on the back and side.

GPU Fan control is through the adrenaline app, Front case fan control is through my motherboard App.

I did wonder that when I first got it, Unless I am being stupid.. lol (most likely)

I understand the GPU fans - but there's probably an XfX app for the GPU specifically (or a plug-in for iCUE).

But as it's a Corsair iCUE case, then all the fans (front, AIO, rear) should be controllable via iCUE...but having other fan control software running (i.e. Asus Armoury Crate) will conflict and stop it being shown.

Unfortunately Armoury Crate 'self installs' as part of the motherboard software.

I didn't think of an XfX app or a plug-in, Tbh I don't really like messing with things too much as I just want to game in peace lol.
But yeah the front fans I can only control the lighting not fan speed, I only discovered the Armoury App a few days ago so I could put the fans on a higher speed.

Will definitely look into the plug-ins, Thanks Tony.

Replying to @srmd, just quoting Tony to continue the conversation

You can disable that in the BIOS and it would be recommended to do so, Crate is bloody awful and ALWAYS best to leave off the system

Hi Spyder thank you.

I know I am being so stupid here, So I need to uninstall both Adrenaline & Crate, Once crate is uninstalled disable from BIOS?

Thank you for your patience lol.

You'll need to disable crate in the BIOS first, otherwise when you boot it will automatically install again.

Then once it's disabled in the BIOS, you have to uninstall it with the official uninstaller as you can't do so from windows

Then do your best to avoid ever hearing about it or seeing it on your travels in the future

Hi Spyder, Thank you.
I followed the above guide for the Driver update, It stated I am already on the best even though following that. However on the install I noticed it said Driver only install.. I tried this, Then my screen basically had copies of itself? No idea what happened on the adrenaline app it said the update failed but it didn't say that before. I restarted and the adrenaline app is now gone?

I tried to update the driver again says best version. All seems fine.
I have now downloaded MSI Afterburner to control GPU Fans.

You can't update graphics drivers from device manager and it can't tell you if you're on the latest version, it has no relevance to graphics drivers.

Device Manager only links to the windows catalogue of drivers. Graphics drivers are gotten direct from the manufacturer.

Graphics drivers are updated so often, it wouldn't make sense to have them signed and added to the catalogue each time, so the windows catalogue only has one added every so often as a fallback for basic operation during windows install.

so you'd have to fully uninstall the current driver with DDU as @Martinr36 suggested, then on reboot go through the guide linked to only install the graphics driver.
