Dear Esther - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7VJ4lP-05A (one of my fav games for soundtrack/ Atmosphere)

To to the moon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqkJuSV-23U (Amazing Soundtrack, a great story and atmosphere) Recommend to anyone who misses a good retro style game. Must say it gave me a lump in the throat haha.

The Stanley parable - (do not read about the game, incredibly easy to find spoilers) Lets just say its has many choices :shifty: (comical, great atmosphere and odd in a great way) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1S796fXtl4

Red Orchestra 2 - Wouldn't say this game is totally unique but it is very interesting and massively underrated, before it finally was recognized. It got the multilayer game of the year 2013. very fun, great if u like team work, big maps. looks great. will also give the link to the expansion - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihDjGvRiutk

Day Z - This is now available for early access on steam, and is one of the most popular games on steam. Its at ALPHA stage as its early access so most of the features are not in yet, but it is mega fun.
Here is a video of game play which presents some of the features in the games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HvFrp7o9ss

Interesting choices. Arent those games (apart from RO2) been said to be more like interactive stories rather than games? Which makes me think you would have Gone Home on that list and if you havent played it, it would be something you enjoy.
Might give To the Moon a go as its now available in a humble bundle i think.

For me the biggest surprise recently has been Euro Truck Simulator 2. Never thought i would like such a boring sounding game, but i do!

Theres a game on android and i assume IOS called the Room i think, where your in... well a room and there is a puzzle box which you have to solve and i found it very entertaining. Not too challenging but clever.

FTL is a great game too that i dont think i've played anything that i can compare it too, it can be unforgiving at times and there is different strategies to it. Im ashamed to say i havent been able to defeat the final boss yet.

Cannon Fodder, the original was a simple point and click military game but was funny and a lot of fun to play, the sequels and remakes sadly don't live up to the original

I have had many debates about if they are interactive story's or games. In mu opinion they are games. I put up the trailers so people know that they are not like ur everyday shoot em up games.

Super Hexagon. All day every day.

I've never come across such an addictive and challenging game. It's also one of the few games where I feel achievements actually feel like you've achieved something rather than a "Everybody will get this achievement eventually with little effort but please feel good about yourself for 5 minutes anyway".

If you've never played it I would strongly suggest it. I think I got it for like 60p in a sale and put something like 20 hours into it. That's value for money ;) And if you thought you were a good gamer, Super Hexagon will soon put you to the test.

The Room 2 has been released but currently only for Ipad, looking forward to it making it over to the iPhone!

For me, one of the best couple of games I played in recent years and only found by chance are part of The Longest Journey saga. Absolutely brilliant writing made it a consuming game with a wonderful story. Recently a kickstarter campaign started to complete the final part called Dreamfall Chapters, i have backed it and it should be released towards the end of the year, really looking forward to the conclusion of the storyline!

Speedrunner's is a fun little title :D Online 4 player racing game where you run and use powerups to slow down the other players.

Trine 2, scrolling platform of old - great looking and great fun.
