So I had my mac for a few years and I thought because I am going to university its time to upgrade to a beast of a machine, so here are my new specs that I am currently looking at.

Just for gaming? I wouldn't get the cpu you chosen and for your budget I would expect at least a GTX 780, seems a bit unbalanced.

I was also offered a bursary but I used it for books and living cost, I would advice you to spend less than £1k and save the rest. Besides purpose of uni is to study not too much gaming?;)

I would still suggest a different build although I don't know if you have already decided on one :)
I would go for a z97 or 1155 build and get the 780 although I am not sure what the course you mentioned entails.
Upgrade the warranty for £5 regardless.
