Changed PC and............

I have changed my PC and having a couple of minor probs with the new one.

I'm one of those people that like to have several icons on the desktop in order, Also several pinned items to the taskbar.
Anyway, I sorted it all out nicely... I don't think I have OCD lol.

I put it to sleep before bed last night, and when I woke it this morning I found the icons all over the place.
And the ones I had pinned into the taskbar had disappeared.

Can anyone help this dummy, please?

Check if windows updates applied overnight and if so roll back to before installing them.

Have you modified any of the display settings? Resolution, scaling etc.?

Thanks, huntsman, but no updates through the night.
I only set the PC up yesterday and run the updates in the afternoon.

If you right click on the desktop, go to view, then make sure "auto arrange" isn't selected.

Auto arrange wasn't selected, but align to grid is.
Should I untick that one?

If you don't want it aligned then yes.

If it's aligned to grid, then you have rows and colums and no matter where you drag them it will snap back into the grid. Play around and see for yourself.

In a similar vein..........
I have a few tabs open in chrome, but can't get them to reduce to favicon size?
I right-clicked on the tab, but there isn't a "pin tab" in the pane just "Pin" and that doesn't work, unfortunately.

Good job I'm at home all day to try and get this correct.
