I've wanted to build a laptop for a while within a budget. Is this a good spec?

It is but a few tweaks could be made or even consideration of another model depending on what you want it for.

Recommendations are usually instead of 1xRAM stick - get a pair.

Also to consider two hard drives, one for the operating system and one for storage / games. So consider sticking in a 250 fb for the OS to be installed on.

What are your main usages going to be. Purely games? Other? Does it need to be very portable, are you expecting good battery life or is it likely plugged in all the time.

Does it have to be 15” or consider 17”?

There will be various suggestions then based on your answers to these as there are good desktop replacement laptops available as well.

What is your max budget and also provide the link from the spec too - makes it easier for people to tweak for you.

Superb build but I have one major criticism
The Intel Processor.intel is at the end of its long lived life and AMD is now the better choice. Get yourself an AMD processor within your budget

Thanks for replying luffy, I tried to to see if it eligible, however the itel was the only option given

What games are you planning on. Is it still going to be plugged in when you get to where you are going or do you need long battery life as gaming laptops aren’t renowned for long battery life.

Any intensive daily work spreadsheets or progs?

Does it have to be the defiance or are you open to other choices?

Defiance doesn’t have AMD option.

Hi thanks for replying, my idea for this laptop is to be powerful enough for daily usage of working/gaming. I chose the smaller screen as I need it to be small and easy to carry.
My budget is no more than £2200 icn vat

It doesn't have to be the Defiance, however it is one that fits my budget

Admittedly, the latter is £26 over budget, but you could, although personally I wouldnt, lower the warranty to the Silver to keep it in budget.

I really appreciate the help I'll have a look at these.

Both look good enough for me. If you're looking for battery life, then I believe the recoil is the one with the bigger battery. The Vyper has a better build quality tough, as the chassis is magnesium (versus aluminium on the Recoil). The Recoil also has a slightly better GPU than the Vyper. So the choice is yours now, up to personal preference.

But if you want to lower the costs a bit, I don't think you need 2 Samsung drives. I would raise the 1st to 500Gb or 1Tb (keeping Samsung) and change the 2nd to 1Tb of another brand. The final cost will be lower.

PS: I also wouldn't lower the warranty.

I only put the second Samsung in there as it’s the only one that does 2TB to match what OP had before but agree. Personally I went for 1TB SAMSUNG and 1TB PCS in my Opt Pro.
