Hello, I made a post some time ago asking for help with a PC build with a much lower budget (1000 - 2000)

well ive decided to upgrade my budget and hopefully nab a much higher spec PC, I went with a prebuilt 15 1650 and big mistake with the constant frame drops its rather annoying, looking to pick up a new one within the next few months (2)

so if anyone could help me build a newer PC to fit within that budget that would be great! intel or AMD is fine both good Vram and normal Ram, a good monitor to get the most out of the PC, it would really only be used for gaming / streaming / video editing

thanks for the help guys and girls :)

27inch Omen X 27 - 400-500 QHD 1440p 240Hz
27inch LG 27GL83A - 400-500 QHD NVidia GSync IPS ( i havent used this but havent read a bad review)

My esteemed colleague @MrWilson is 100% spot on with his assessment. It might look close to you but I’m seeing things that set alarm bells ringing when I look at your build. I’m going to move these posts over to their own thread so we can get your system optimised.

Right, we now have our own thread 👍

@ScottMacGregor948, please can you post your proposed build including the reconfiguration link as described in the post below? Also, please let us know what your uses for the system will be, such as gaming, streaming, editing, design etc. If we could also have your maximum budget for the system and what monitor you’ll be using, that’ll really help us nail the perfect spec for you 👍

Okie dokie 👍

The issue I’ve spotted with your spec is that you went through the workstation configurator, thus locking yourself out of some of the better components. I’ve done a re-spec for you that is better optimised but will take you over budget. I’ll do another spec for you in the following post that will be within budget and I think would actually suit your needs quite nicely 🙂

AMD CPUs seem to have issues with 4 RAM sticks, so its always recommended to just go for 2. In this case, 2 x 16 GB of ram will do you just fine.

Brilliant, thank you very much.

Quick question on first quote. I can likely get rid of the 1TB PCS but it is only available in the 1st Storage drive section in the configurator and not the M.2 SSD Drive. Is the quote more expensive then than needs to be or was this intended. Many thanks.

Does this hard drive configuration give good optimisation. Played around with the motherboards a bit too. Thank you for all your help!

Ah, it was intended. The logic is that you keep the Samsung M.2 for your OS and programs, you then use the 1TB PCS version as fast storage, it’d be handy for your video editing and for games that have long load times (I’m looking at you, Red Dead Redemption 2). The added bonus is that if you need to reinstall Windows at any point, all your games, saves and work are safely stored away on that additional drive 👍

I would consider your monitor selection. 240fps is a bit pointless as anything over 120hz isn't going to make any difference to you. With that in mind, a 3070 would be more than enough for the GPU and save you a fair few quid that you could put towards your next upgrade. If you were to be more cautious with your monitor selection, you could get the likes of the Samsung G5 for £300. Overall this would save you about £500 which would do well for your next GPU/Monitor combination. The 3080 is more suitable for high refresh 4k and Ultrawidescreen. Don't get too caught up in FPS reviews on youtube and the likes, it's all just for discussion and pub talk than it is for actual gaming experience.

With regards to the PCS M2 drive, this would be for games and for any caching required for the video editing. It's a luxury choice but one very worthwhile given that you won't ever need to wipe it during a reformat or with any issues.

Thanks Scott, my current monitor is this 27inch Asus VG278 - 1080p 144Hz g-Sync. Its not urgent its upgraded just now. I will have a look at more monitors. As they are more likely to be NDD it is not as important right now, also id rather not have a curved one. I chose the Omen X as recommended to me but there is room to manoeuvre on that one for sure.

I will sleep on the purchase as there are a few things for me to contemplate.

Thanks to all.

Hopefully i can post when im closer to a decision and when have one i will post it up here.

Scott
