Check pc build

Planning on getting this pc to use for the next few years. Will mainly use it for gaming and rarely streaming. I have got a 1080p 144hz monitor but im looking to upgrade to a 240hz one. I will be playing games on low settings to max out fps on games, so just wondering if this pc would fit the bill for what I want.

Games I mostly play are overwatch, rainbow six siege and apex legends. In the future I will probably give the pc away and get a new build so not planning on 'future proofing' much.

It's quite hard to suggest a PC Gaming build for this price point currently as NVIDIA are half way through a card refresh (so there are no lower end cards) and prices are sky high due to the pandemic and global demand. This system is quite a bit over budget but It's really not worth spending £1000 on a PC right now. If you're able to wait a few months and maybe upping your budget by a few hundred £ I'd highly suggest doing so - waits will be shorter and you'll get more for your money. If you already have a PC you can save about £85 on the windows key that would be a great way to save some money

One way you could save and keep it more inside your budget is downgrade the graphics card from a 2060 super to a 1650 which will manage 1080p but I'm unsure if you'll get the frames you're after, especially if you're thinking of upgrading to a 240hz monitor soon. I'm also unsure how well the 1650 will hold up over the coming years as games get more graphically intensive and you wouldn't want a system you have to upgrade in less than 2 years, otherwise it's not really fit for purpose

I can increase my budget to 1250 and im willing to wait like up to 2 months to upgrade if that would be better for me. Made a few changes to the build as im not gonna be using wifi and would rather use only 1 M.2 drive. Also ive read a few threads where the pre placed fans in that case are quite loud so this the build.

Intel m.2 drives have a lower write endurance than most competitors and their performance is nothing special. You would be better selecting the PCS version.

MrWilson

Godlike
If you are looking to play competitively and max out a 240hz display the 3060ti is the card you really need. It has effectively replaced the 2080 Super, which was the old 1080p 240hz king. It is a little more expensive so I hope you can stretch the budget for it.
3600x doesn't offer much over the 3600 so saved a bit there, and switched to the PCS m.2 as it has better endurance and faster write speed so is all round better than the Intel m.2, as well as being cheaper.
Really wouldn't look to downgrade from this, even with upgrading not in mind.

I need WiFi on the the system so I went with that motherboard as it also has 3 M.2 slots. I also went with the 850w PSU as it is the cheapest one that is fully modular and allows for me to easily upgrade my graphics card at a later date. Initially I was planning on getting the 3060 ti but apparently it is out of stock till June and I don’t want to wait that long.
My budget for everything is around £1900.
So with the monitor and peripherals costing £450 the build right now is within my total budget. I am willing to add another £100 to the build if it is necessary.
Any thoughts/advice on the build?

Nvidia 3060 is the highest end GPU for 1080p. 3060Ti would be the highest of the highest, though (balancing between overkill and "I'd rather get a more powerful GPU than a CPU" :) ). Just out of curiosity, why 240hz monitor? Human eye can't tell a big difference between 120Hz and higher - 144Hz is really the best for 1080p in normal conditions (except the professional gaming for competitions, if it's what you're aiming).

PC case, CPU and the motherboard are very good choices. I would consider having two drives instead of one though - having 500GB or larger M.2 for OS and second drive for everything else would give a bit of a better performance as the OS would work on it's own drive without interference to other tasks reading/writing files. Also, whenever you'd be reinstalling OS, it would be easier to backup files from one smaller drive designated for OS, while the games' and work files on the other drive would stay safe and untouched - that saves also time and hassle for backups before reinstalling.

If you'll be streaming all day long, I'd pick a 5800X CPU over 5600X but that's definitely more up to your budget as you'd also need a better cooler for that - ideally Corsair AIO.

P.s., stop using Chrome and making Google richer than they are as you're giving them free data of what and when you're browsing - based on that they're advertising things. Ms Edge or other browsers are much better :) Chrome is also very RAM hungry and if you'll be streaming, that matters.

I used to play in tournaments on R6 and overwatch and want to continue doing it, so 240hz seemed like the minimum to play at after looking at some of my friends computers that do the same.
My budget doesn’t cover the upgrade to a 5800x but I could fit in another M.2 drive. Just wondering if it would be fine to go for a 250gb ssd if it’s just for the OS and whether or not I should get a Samsung 970/980 one or a regular PCS M.2?

Having of 240Hz monitor and thinking it's all you need for a good gaming experience is a false thinking. A monitor panel (TN is the oldest and no longer we should pay monitor with this, VA is the middle ground, IPS is best colours), resolution matching screen size (eg., 1080p resolution is bad on bigger than 25inch monitors, that's why if getting 27inch or larger, you should be looking 1440p resolution etc... The larger the screen, the better resolution must be, otherwise lower resolution means less pixels just spread out on a big screen - very poor picture output). GPU, CPU (not so important as GPU, but still valid) and monitor pairing is a key to a good gaming experience image wise. Monitor refresh rate (Hz) over 144Hz will not give you as much goodies as choosing the right monitor panel and resolution paired with decent and proper GPU. 144Hz for 1080p/1440p monitor is normal, while 4K, for example, 144Hz is just too expensive and 60Hz is a normal purchase until the 144Hz 4K technology will get cheaper... Most games above 60Hz already look good, except racing and similar games where picture changes very fast - these should be aimed at 144Hz. But 240Hz is absolutely unnecessary, except professional gaming with competitions, but that's a job, not pleasure. Because 240Hz monitors are more expensive, it's easy to overlook other more important things such as resolution or response time (in milliseconds), so it's easy to end up with an actually worse screen than someone with 144Hz - just need to look what you're buying. And choosing a monitor isn't easy as there's plenty of them - and so many are just for office need, not gaming (cheap, good enough for no fast picture changes, but not proper for gaming).

The minimum to play is 60Hz - that's an absolute minimum. 240Hz is a maximum. Between 120Hz and 144Hz is a sweetspot.

250GB drive... is ok if you later plan to change it. With updates it will fill in and when more than 75-80% full, they get slower.

Regular PCS M.2 is a great value and performance for money. Of course, there're better ones. But a good drive for OS is more important... If there's a budget, pick 500GB any (except Intel and Fuzedrive) M.2 for OS and for everything else 1TB or 2TB either HDD or Sata SSD. You can always add more storage later, when budget allows. So for starting I would take 500GB Samsung 980 Pro or Seagate Firecuda for OS and 2TB HDD for everything else. After a year or two, if you see that you need, you could get another M.2 SSD as they will get cheaper in time (due to technology changes and themselves getting more popular).
