I seem to recall that the question and answer were mutually exclusive in the same universe? We know the answer which means we can never know the question - not in this universe at any rate.

That's the point (if i remember the details well, a guy knew the Question, because he drank to much truth serum, but he had to suicide because he met Arthur Dent to avoid the Universe to become weirder)
