AMD driver not working after glitch causes me to re-install it

Yesterday I got my new computer and discovered that a new driver update had come out the very same day, so, I went to update it. (I have an AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT)

The update got stuck on 79% several times and after waiting, it wouldn't budge. I looked up the problem and some suggested the solution being to use DDU to uninstall the drivers in safe mode and then redownload them once I had. I did that, and it didn't work. So, I did it again. Still nothing. Not really sure what to do.

When I try to start a game, it crashes and I cannot open the AMD Adrenalin Software, it just doesn't open. It also isn't coming up on start-up when it usually would.

Any idea what's causing this?

You have a couple of options here. Both are a bit of hassle but one option has more steps than the other. My suggestion would be to install Windows from scratch. If there are important things on the PC already that you would rather not go to the trouble of sorting, then the next option would be to remove all of armoury crate, adrenaline and all of the GPU drivers (DDU).

To re-install Windows you need an 8GB USB drive, download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and you will be able to wipe and install Windows via this. If you want to go down this route, happy to help with any steps you need.

For Armoury Crate removal you need to get the proper uninstallation tool from here https://www.asus.com/supportonly/armoury crate/helpdesk_download/

Click "Show All" and you will see the uninstallation tool.

Go through the steps with that. Once complete, uninstall any AMD adrenaline softwares via both the Control Panel Add/Remove and the Add/Remove on Windows Settings (I've seen them hiding in either or rather than both).

If you have the latest GPU drivers then remove your internet or disable automatic updates. If not, download them first then make sure the system won't be updating anything on its own.

After all of this, uninstall all GPU drivers using DDU. Be sure that everything is removed and any restarts are done.

Install the GPU drivers
Install Adrenaline, enable network/internet/updates & Update as required
Install Armoury Crate if you want it (I hate this software).

What is Armoury Crate ?
I've already tried uninstalling Adrenaline and the GPU drivers several times, I just there tried to go back to an older driver and that at least fixed Adrenaline being buggy but games still crash every time I'm loading in. No idea what this is about, it was working fine before I went to update the driver.

Armoury Crate is the ASUS bloatware for controlling all of the motherboard options. It's a horrendous app in my experience, GBs of software running blanket regardless of hardware utilisation. It causes numerous issues, well documented throughout the interwebs so it's always my first port of call with ASUS.

The only thing I wanted it for is controlling RGB but I refuse to install it just for that.

When I got my system recently, it had Adrenalin installed (presuming PCS installed it due to the AMD iGPU) and it was telling me that there was an update to Adrenalin available...the installing of it kept getting stuck at around the same percentage. I was having issues (mouse becoming glitchy, programs being unresponsive) but can't be sure it was Adrenalin. However, Adrenalin has had issues in the past.

If it was me, I'd do a new Windows install as noted above..you can get the tool from here:

leave Adrenalin off completely (you don't really need it..it's just a useful tool) and install the graphics driver direct:

Do I have to uninstall Windows 11 before downloading again? Not really sure how this works. I already tried downloading direct from the AMD site as well and that didn't work; but maybe would after Windows 11 is re-installed. Although I do wonder if maybe my virus protection could be a part in all of this?

It's possible if your AV program is a 3rd party one...although I had the issues with Adrenalin and I use Windows Defender (least likely to cause issues).

Given the issues and what you have installed, I would recommend a complete fresh Windows reinstall (make sure to backup any important files beforehand). So

-Download the tool to USB from the link above;
- Reinstall Windows and choose the format option so it completely wipes your primary drive;
- Once reinstalled, go to Windows Updates and install all updates, both essential and optional; once installed, restart your system as directed, then go back and check for Updates again;
- Once done, go and download the GPU driver from the link I posted and restart your system;

At this point, you should have a completely clean and issue free Windows install. At this point, install one of the games that is having issues (and, if it's something from Steam, then the Steam client)....don't install anything else. Now try the game...if it now works fine, then it was either Windows or a program...you can then start adding things back one at a time, though I wouldn't install Armoury Crate (just install iCUE for the RGB). Adrenalin is a different one as it makes it easier to know when there's GPU drive updates...maybe try installing that one before the others just in case
Okay. Thank you. Just curious, will the Windows re-install wipe my PC? Also should I uninstall my current drivers before the reinstall?

The OP doesn't need Armoury Crate anyway....iCUE is capable of controlling all that RGB as everything bar the GPU is Corsair. Not sure if AMD GPUs have controllable RGB...NVIDIA RGB can't be changed, it just does what it does

I can't change my RAM RGB without Armoury Crate. It does my head in o_O

ideally, yes..you can do a reinstall with a complete format but sometimes things get left behind...this is why, when we spec, we recommend a separate games drive so they don't also get wiped.

You don't need to worry about drivers as a reinstall will delete them anyway
Thank you

That's highly annoying!! My RAM is seen by iCUE and changes with everything else...and the OPs RAM is the same so should also be fine. Can't change the RGB on the GPU though which is annoying as it is different colours to everything else :mad:
You inspired me to go digging again and I managed to get it working. There's a kingston app specifically for the RGB but it didn't work for me before. My guess is it was in fact Armoury or something like that causing it not to work, just installed it and it changed without any drama at all.

I now have zero controlling software other than that very small app, happy at that :)

Had a similar issue with Crate when I got my machine too, doesn't play nice with iCue. I had to jump through some hoops to get the RGB set with iCue without interference from Crate before removing Crate to get them to set properly. Was a serious faff I can see if I can remember my steps later

After doing this, it seems to have fixed the Graphics Driver issue. But now my headphones and sound drivers seem to be completely not working. I've tried updating but to no avail, not really sure what to do now. Seems like every time I fix something, something else breaks.

Have you installed all optional updates?

I also tried troubleshooting and it didn’t detect any issue. Tried disabling and enabling the sound driver. Tried the headphones on my phone and it worked fine so it’s definitely a computer issue. Just not too sure where to go now.
Can you post a screenshot of your device manager and optional updates page?

Am I right in guessing your headset is the TechnoZone K38? Connects via USB?

What is listed under "other devices"? Just curious as there is a green question mark next to it, no clue if it's related or not (not sure what the green ? means these days)
That's my mic. My headphones are connected via a headphone jack.
This is under other devices. No idea why.
