WWDC 25 and IOS 19

Ok, I’ve only just heard about this.

Apparently, according to Mark Gurman who is THE Apple insider, at WWDC in June Apple will be announcing a MAJOR unified OS design language update, with VisionOS being the template

From what I’ve read this is going to be across all OSs including MacOS and even TVOS

Rollout will be in line with the new mobile releases usually between end of September and middle of October, usually it would be IOS and MacOS first with iPadOS following then the others later. Although I wonder if TVOS (on both AppleTV and HomePods) may require a hardware bump to run so perhaps will be delayed until new models are released perhaps around March next year.

And we’re expecting a significant announcement regarding Apple Intelligence which still hasn’t been linked to the main AI compute capabilities. There have been loads of mass lawsuits opened against Apple for false advertising. This vid is well worth a watch on that front

I used to look forward to all these WWDCs over the years, looking out for new & interesting features in hardware & software...but the last 3 or 4 have just been 'meh'.

I've got one of the old, free Apple Developer accounts (so that I could download full installer images in the past), and from my reading it's going to be 'Solarium' aka Windows Aero for the Mac...which I think I may not bother with, and I'm really fed up with the OS changes over the last few versions...which have done nothing to make it simpler (i.e. ungrouping the preferences in settings, only searching down a single level of settings, changing how Finder windows expand/shrink/restore, etc.).

Everything else seems to be more AI-focused, which I can also do without.

The only reason I update the Mac is so I can share content from the iPad/iPhone...otherwise things like Calendar & Reminders don't sync across as they're running incompatible versions, even if it's only a 0.0.1 point release difference - which seems like a stipulation that's been put in by Apple, rather than a technical requirement.

I wish they'd just go back to their 'Snow-OS' approach, where a major OS would come out with all new bells & whistles, then the next major OS would be a version with zero new features but lots of refinements to make it faster/better. Like when they forcibly reformatted everyone's HDD to AFPS and then everyone with a HDD was faced with 10 minute boot times...even broke those with the Fusion drives when the tiny SSD part filled up or failed.

I hope everyone is ready to start salivating (or got their artificial saliva drops ready).

I’ve stepped it up to mucus glands for this occasion

Will they release a foldable? My boss has been saying this would happen for two years now.

I think they definitely will at some stage, price will be STEEP though!

This event is usually not for hardware, but they do sometimes mention things in passing.

But if a Samsung Fold is over £1500+, can you imagine what an Apple Fold will cost 😲😲😲

Samsung Fold 6 on release is £1800!

Im betting £2400 UNLESS they try to balance trumplethinskin tariffs across other regions (which I’m betting Apple WiLL do as a homegrown American (Taiwanese) company. If they do that I reckons it’ll be £2500

BUT, if they can achieve a similar form factor as the iPad Mini, I can still see it selling

First 45 minutes are all 'meh'...stay tuned folks!
I’ve clocked out, it’s all about the visual redesign, few basic features, why oh why are you still having to use chatGPT for basic LLM queries? Those lawsuits are definitely going to have Apple as a loser

I don't even use AI or voice control for anything (except where I have to interact with a chatbot to reach a real person)...be that Siri, Alexa, Cortana/Clippy/Copilot, Bixby, Google Assistant/Gemini, HeyBMW, et al.

Wow, finally a new feature I'll actually use...the ability to quickly resize (not crop/trim, just file size by resolution/quality) photos natively (instead of going into Adobe or a 3rd party resizer).

That was on ipadOS btw, you can already do it on macOS.

The tiling feature might be useful too, so I’ll allow Apple 2 points (out of 100).
