Not to necro this post but as an update I finally managed to get the laptop case off. Peoples advice here was spot on. There were additional screws under the keyboard that I had to remove (after removing keyboard screws and popping the keyboard out).
So just in case another internet citizen...
Thanks for the replies. There is no external battery and I have removed the keyboard previously so I will check again to see if I missed anything.

Yes I undid every screw and removed all the clips around the edges. It just seemed to be stuck in the middle of the case , like it was attached to something else. If that is the right approach I'll try again and see if I get any success (I already broke the side of the case so...
