So... title says it all!

- improvements you'd suggest within this budget?

I'd like to retain 2TB HDD as low on space. And would want to avoid updating for a couple of years.

(technically it's £6 over budget but dont tell the wife...! :saddam:)

Keeping the H80i cooler would be an additional £25 but if looking at water cooling I would definitely go with the H100i V2 with the quiet fans which would be an additional £50. The Noctua is more than adequate, the H100i is more of a nice to have.

Other changes include the Gigabyte motherboard to allow the 3000mhz RAM and the Samsung SM961 M2 drive (lightening quick) replacing the very standard SSD.

Edit: You could knock another £27 off by going for the Fractal Define S case rather than the NZXT. Good case and more than good enough. It doesn't have the red detail though, if that's what you are after.

Others are better qualified to qualified to comment on case, cooling mobo but at first lance I would up the warranty to silver if you are paying that much, only another fiver, plus, it is 40 or so quid more but a Samsung high speed m2 SSD would be a lot faster than the Kingston.

If you are after the red look there is also the Corsair Spec Alpha (£69) which is a fairly new case that seems to offer decent performance and features.

I would avoid the H440. From the photos and quoted dimensions PCS seem to be using the 2014 edition, which was criticised for below par cooling. NZXT did a revised version in 2015 to address that.

Much appreciated all. Am liking the idea of knocking a little of the price for what sounds like a better case. Not so fussed by the look of the case - sitting hidden under a desk! Was using the theory of more fans = good.

I have read that the Noctua cooler is on par with the liquid ones so bit of a saving there as well.

Much appreciated chaps - will get Xmas out the way and then get buying!

If you're not buying until after Xmas, be aware that intel are expected to launch Kaby Lake in early January, which is a somewhat higher clocked and somewhat more power efficient version of Skylake - so there may be slightly better CPUs for a similar price available in a few weeks.

Not sure about PCS but many retailers are expected to increase prices from January to take into account the full extent of the depreciation of the sterling.
