Hi everyone :)

Please could I have some advice on the below. It's a big spend for me so just want to make sure that this is min/maxed and optimised/worth it. I'll be using it to play games like Star Citizen and God of War. Also, is this a good combination with the monitor i've selected?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi mate I see you've went for a 1440p monitor matched with a 3080. This would be overkill mate a 3070 or a 3070Ti if you wanted a bit more umpf would be more than enough for that monitor also it's the price a 4K monitor and complete rip off I wouldn't recommend it at all at this price

In that budget I would go with this and get a Samsung G9 monitor elsewhere, this will offer pretty much the same performance as your build and leave enough left over for a good 4K 144Hz monitor

Personally, I wouldnt buy it.
Thats spend has been pushed into DDR5, the CPU and the GPU and its unbalanced other areas.
Also some minor bits like thermal paste not needed (corsair has its own high quality one), cooler wouldnt hurt being a H115i instead...other tweeks like that.

Was there a reason for taking a budget case? Its quite surprising to see in a budget that large.

A lot of people are sayting DDR5 isnt worth it yet, its brand new so at a premium, and the gains are marginal...nothing is really optimised for it and i've seen a few talk about how as its speeds increase, theres no guarantee at all current boards will support it. Its one of those where it needs to be left for 12 months while the industry really gets its teeth into it.

Theres a huge amount that can be done with that budget, and the build youve put really does need some fixing.

Thanks @Steveyg !!

@Aza - To be completely honest I don't have a clue what I'm doing lol. I've tried to piece it together based on information I've accrued over the past few weeks. And this is exactly why I've come to the experts hehe.

Would you agree with Steve's spec above??

Its a beefy system, and like he has said, it would free up enough budget (rather than burning it all on DDR5 etc) to then enable you to buy a decent 4K monitor that would make use of a 3080 GPU.

Personally, I would opt for a few tiny tweeks and get a cracking 1440p ultrawide monitor, 4K is great but pricey and 1440p is still very nice but you can save yourself hundreds taking a 3070Ti

Then it leaves the option of a 12900KF (although I would get some opinions to see if youd benefit from that) and a H150i Elite cooler
Or a bigger (2TB) firecuda 530 etc etc....

No denying the build he's given is a monster though

12900KF offers single digit FPS improvements over the 12700K in gaming mate it's a non contender in my opinion. Plus the ridiculous heat and power draw I can see it killing many many builds in the coming years mark my words

Very interesting!

Could anyone suggest a complimentary ultrawide 1440p monitor to go with this build? Or is that a whole other topic? lol

Would the 3070 Ti still be a good choice for a G9? or is the extra expense worth it for a 3080?

I personally wouldn't want a 3070Ti and a G9, the G9 is essentially two 1440P monitors on one panel. Yes it's 1440p in the sense of vertical pixels but the horizontal pixels are 5120 (5120 x 1440) which is almost 50% more than 4K (3440 x 2160). You need the beef of the 3080 to run it properly. They both total out around the same in terms of pixel density

You have a couple of options on the G9. I don't think the ones on Amazon are right at the moment though so I would avoid them.

The G95 (the new G9, is £1200)

The G9 Neo is better value at the moment, IMO, at £1500

The G9 Neo is the ultimate offering. It would compliment a top shelf build and be the zero compromise approach.

Just to clarify a little as I know you'll likely understand @Steveyg, but others may not.

The horizontal difference is almost 50% more, but the vertical difference is 50% less. This means that the G9 has less pixels to push than a 4k resolution. This means that the G9 will run better with the 3080 than 4k will.... although there won't be a lot in it.

Regardless, the G9 commands a 3080 at the helm. The difference between the G9 and a 4k monitor, pixel count wise, is negligible. The 3070Ti would do a fine job of 4k, not maximising FPS but definitely a healthy count with the right settings, but at this level I don't see the need to middle.

As a happy medium you could purchase the GPU elsewhere also, you're allowed to add your own hardware to the system as you see fit. This could save a few £ if the pricing is still high on the GPU front.
