Result:
It was very very close at 1440p, but the 3070 performed an absolute demolition job at 1080p and it wasn’t particularly close.
Ryzen 7 5800X was the cpu.
3070 also kept a far more consistently high fps - the 1% lows for the AMD card were all over the place.

I may also add to this... the 3070 is overclocked (only 50 core and 350 memory, but no extra voltage) and the 6700XT kept up at 1440p. Although my testing was only on cod, i like to use cod as a benchmark for fps.
So if targeting 1440p no ray tracing gaming, whilst prices are what they are, i would have to push the 6700XT more than the 3070. Plus supply should be better, due to low hashrates etc of the 6700XT, making them less desirable to miners.
Anyway, i am keeping the 3070 as my own card.

I went with the 6700XT mainly because of availability, I hope I don't regret it after I've seen it being criticised 🤞
It is a great card, i paid £420 for mine and at a time when 3070’s are going for £800 from retailers, it is a no brainer. Especially with a Ryzen CPU

They sell out in seconds on sites like overclockers. The miners are all over the 3070/80/90 and 6800/6800/900XT, with record crypto prices and improved hashrates. I’m not sure what pcs is charging for a 3070, but i can’t imagine it is much less.
I honestly find it highly unlikely this will end this year.
The issue is far more complex than covid, even without covid, i think this issue would still have happened, covid just made it worse, by increasing demand, just as supply dropped.
That's exactly what I thought when I changed my order, and from I've read from the miners they aint gonna be stopping tomorrow neither 🤣
Without the 6700 I'd be in a 3 months waiting list I imagine so let's hope she doesn't let me down 🤣🤞

I’m not too sure, i think it is a £100 change since yesterday though, so maybe both

Thats positive news.
It was the high price of GPU's that was most of the increased cost when putting a spec together.... Was it yesterday, day before that it was £170 more for a RTX 3070 compared to a 6700XT.
It does make it a bit of a no-brainer for most people to go with Nvidia, assuming the prices stay close to each other rather than going back up.

Looked at a build i did a few days ago with a 6700XT, price is only £1 more than when I posted it, looks like its teh RTX 3070 thats done all the movement.
I remember people saying they ordered a generic one and ended up with a gigabyte card? They are normally a little more than teh Zotac/Palit ones arent they? (I know it varies with exact model, but in general?)
Could it be that they are able to get their usual supplies back? Or are prices on them dropping elsewhere too?
Amazon still looks like a black hole, couldnt see anything with stock/price with a click flick through there. Same on OC's... all pre-order/coming soon but no price.

Generally yes, but it seems PCS has been extending that to Gigabyte and even Gainward to try and get on top of demand. I'm sure once things are 'back to normal' they'll return to just using Palit and Zotac cards.
This is really odd, It seems Curry's is actually getting the vast majority of the stock but even they're still struggling. PCS must have a few pretty good connections considering how strong their supply chain for the 70 seems to be!

But thats kinda what I mean...those cards would generally be considered more "premium" (we'll ignore the bit over whether they are actually any better) so carry a higher price tag...
If Palit and Zotac are now back within reach, it might explain why the price dropped so suddenly (£100 is a big drop), PCS may have been paying considerably more to get Gigabyte etc but possibly did it so they can keep building, meaning the price hike had to go somewhere.... perhaps supply chains are returning more to normal and with the "cheaper" (less brand recognition) cards back on the table the hike is more a steady stroll atm?

That's something I didn't consider. I guess we'll have to see what brand cards come through over the next few weeks to see if there's been a reduction of these 'premium' cards. That said, I seem to remember NVIDIA saying the supply would somehow improve in April, and we are in April now so maybe it's that improvment of supply we're seeing. Although, the retailers don't seem to have any increase in supply 😂
