4 Beeps on Startup? -- Help --

Was wondering if anyone can help. Every time I turn my PC on it starts off with 1 long beep, then 3 quick beeps afterwards. I originally heard this a few months ago but thought about it then when I turned it back on again the beeps disappeared. Over the past week or two the beeps have came back. The system runs completely fine and haven't seen any drop in performance. As these beeps must mean something and could possibly be a problem. Any answers would be grateful. Thanks.

Is this a PCSpecialist build, can you post your full specs from the order page?

Out of interest, try actively turning the display on BEFORE powering on the PC and see if it still happens?

Just tried it and it still beeps. I've tried the monitor multiple ways as I've read on a few threads to be a monitor problem. I've tried keeping it off and starting it up, left it in standby for it to come on, then tried your option but nothings making a difference with it unfortunately.

Ah, ok, that was a guess, it's an issue with some Asus boards where if the monitor isn't on when the PC is powered on it will produce a GPU error.

Hmmmm. That fault code does suggest graphics error believe, but the fact it boots fine is odd.

Might be worth clearing the CMOS on the board, there's sometimes a reset button on the board itself inside next to a power button, or you can reset from within the BIOS.

That is what I thought even on different websites it does suggest a graphics error. But I do notice from reading these threads that my monitor does take a while to load up and stays on "No Signal" for around 30 seconds after boot then loads up fine. Even when load Device Management it shows my GFX Card on there so it is all functioning correctly, I do now and then see FR drops on Modern Warfare or certain settings change when loading it up after a restart on the PC as well. Not sure exactly what the problem could be.

May be worth logging it with PCS, they may know of something offhand, and perhaps a BIOS update is required.

I am having the same problem. PCS have not diagnosed it yet.
I'm guessing the monitor is hooked up with a DP cable.
Try it with a hdmi cable and see if it still happens.
I believe it's because the Asus motherboard looks for dvi/hdmi first and throws up errors when it cant find one. seconds later it 'sees' the DP and carrys on as usual.
A bios update has not worked.

Not completely sure, I have a dual monitor in one with a DP and the other with HDMI. I was thinking it could be causing the error from what you said or it could be a power supply problem, as my PC is run off an extension cable rather than the wall outlet? Not 100% sure. Most annoying error I've ever came across.

Doesn't make any difference running pc off extension cable, that's what you're supposed to do.

Try one monitor dp and then hdmi separately. Does it happen with one and not the other?

I've tried it, still making the noise on startup. It doesn't want to work by the looks.
Let us know what pcs say.
Although they will want you to be clear - have you set up one monitor only with an hdmi only cable- and it still happens?

Yeah I'll keep you updated. Yeah I've unplugged everything from the one monitor and computer and used just used the HDMI in the one monitor and still makes the noise on start up.

That beep code varies depending on whether you have an AMI or an AWARD BIOS. On AWARD BIOS 1 long and 3 short is a video failure, but on AMI BIOS 1 long and 3 short is a RAM failure.

Try booting with only one RAM card in at a time.....

Was exactly what you said. Called PCS up and walked me through general troubleshooting, tried to reseat the graphics card still wouldn't work. Was investigated and there is a fault with the DP & HDMI ports, it doesn't recognise which port to go on to so it beeps then finds the correct display. Put my old Graphics Card in and it worked wonders, no beeps. Will have to see if they are able to replace it as it's still under warranty, if not it's a perfect excuse to just upgrade. Just thought I'd give you all an update.

That’s interesting, not come across that before. Thanks for feeding back!
